Ummm. There is definitely a cannon. 37mm, 37 cm, 37 in., 3.7 lightyears? Don’t know. But the 2nd button makes plane go “boom….boom….boom” in very satisfying way. Smokin’ happy.

While looking for the Mossie trial (that didn’t exist yet) I went ahead and did the P-47 and P-51 trials. The Jug didn’t do anything for me; it’s a great big tank of an airplane (what great ground handling and flying manners!) but compared to the P-51 the cockpit’s the size of a kitchen and not as well laid out. Having flown the IL2:BoP -47, I’ve had my fill of it before.
The Mustang, however- what a dream! The one in IL2 has always been a tough airplane to fly; not really all that speedy, but no turning capability, and she abruptly flips upside down and departs at the least insistent pull of the stick. Plus the whacky spitwads IL2 uses for .50’s! Never been my favorite, I’ve flown it some and then put it away in favor of their P-38 and Tempest/Spit for my WWII fix.
However, the Stang in DCS flies like a dream! She gives you plenty of warning when she’s thinking about dropping a wing, and then if you keep pulling and she does it’s an easy and quick recovery. Sounds sweet, goes fast, and handles nicely. Seems to take-off and land better than the TF-51, or is that just me?
AND the .50’s do some WORK! I blasted a handful of 109’s pretty effortlessly tonight, great stuff! Soooo… I may have to buy this too. 
Back to the Mossie though, she handles great, nice to me on the ground, flies around much like a King Air, LOL, and lands easily. Really sweet airplane in all regimes of flight, unlike a Spit when in contact with the ground.
My first flight I spent too long fooling around looking for cockpit/instrument lighting switches and touring the cockpit, so that when I finally got ready to roll I noticed a slight vapor trail coming from the left engine. I kinda shrugged and wondered what caused that (were the cowl flaps closed all that time?), but took off anyway. Well, the vapor/smoke trail kept getting worser, and the temp seemed to get hotter so I eventually decided to shut it down (would have shut one down this flight anyway, gave me a legitimate excuse!). OEI is very docile, and they give you a great amount of rudder trim in a convenient place. Had no idea what my speeds were, so I flew it like I would have a -200 and it worked out great. Made a nice landing, but found myself completely unable to taxi on one, unfortunately. Oh well, was worth a try. The cockpit looks sharp (literally, I had to move my head down and away from that razor blade they mount above the left window that’s designed to scalp you if you ball-up the airplane in a field), and the plane seems a very nice companion for WWII ground attack.

In regards to handling qualities the P-51D is great and when you are at convergence the .50cals do some work. It’s also a very nice A/G platform, very stable. Not sure about TF-51D vs P-51D handling though. I don’t have a good enough comparison as I only flew the TF once or twice because I bought the Mustang at release.
The steam/smoke from the Mossie’s left engine is a known issue atm. It goes away after a couple of minutes once airborne.
An easy way to avoid it is to start taxiing once oil temperature hits 10°C and then reduce throttle to 850-950RPM once you are at taxiing speeds. I only bring up RPM on one engine during turns to help with the turn. It’ll get fixed soon enough
