DCS 2.7 Discussion

You were hugged too much as a child, weren’t you? Fed well? Lot’s of stability growing up? Helicopter people (if Harry Reasoner was to be believed) are paranoid, insecure introverts who see failure looming in every shadow. It’s ok. Dread can be a learned behavior.

Any other Oculus users note a marked graphical improvement within the last week?
I haven’t touched my DCS settings, but my graphics quality has improved markedly. I can only attribute it to an Oculus change.

I’ve heard others report this, but it looks the same as always on my Quest 2.

After some reading, apparently there’s a “V33” update which may or may not be on the beta side.

I did update the headset last week on reflection, but didn’t immediately notice the effect. Strange things.

Can the headsets be updated independently? My Oculus desktop app auto-updates, but I thought that applied to the headsets as well.

I’m fairly confident that it can, yes.

I also know that I’ve manually updated a few times.

I haven’t tried the latest patch, but I did think there was an improvement on last week’s version , that’s on the quest 2

I finally managed to spend 5 minutes in the mission editor to create a CAP over Dover with a Mossie and wingman, 4 P47s and 4 Spitfires where Spawning at Manston and Hawkinge to assist and off in the distance leaving France over Calais was 4 wings of JU88s intent on mischief.
What followed was intense, exciting and very enjoyable.
It dawned on me after leaving the Sim that DCS is now as good at WWII air battles as IL2 is. With the benefit of clickable HIFI cockpit flight model etc. I am stoked to now get the same rush in DCS that I get In BOS

We absolutely need to share these missions (warts and all) in a common “folder” so we can … share … them.

Yeah I’m redundant.

Gibhub? That comes with versioning…

I agree but with one big caveat, in my case at least. On line, when more than 2 or 3 planes show up to join the battle, my frames go way down–sometimes to just a few/second. In IL2 I have participated in furballs of 30+ planes and it all ran relatively smoothly. Mine is a 4 year old PC and it is way past time for a better CPU/GPU but that’s my experience for what it’s worth.

I have never really tried DCS WWII multiplayer yet, I always felt at a disadvantage in VR. but a mass flight of warbirds against AI would float my boat

Actually, that sounds far better than Github. “Share all your pew-pew, boom, blam, and kapows here.”

One thing I remember from the old Desert Storm Apache footage was that the chain gun actually sounded like a chain. There was a “clink” with every shot fired that reminded me of someone banging on a chain link fence with a wrench.

Spotting is better in VR and deflection shots are easier (or so I have been told). A lot of regulars on the SoW server fly VR exclusively. What is harder, especially with lower res headsets, is aircraft identification and of course keeping eyes on the enemy in a dogfight. There is a mod called necksaver though.

At 1440p I turn off SSAA before flying online because it makes spotting extremely hard.

Speaking of missions, I’m planning on releasing my Channel Sandbox missions that have various weather and ToD. A few tasks and triggers and AI, but the AI are all pretty stupid so it’s more of a training/have fun type of thing. I’m still working out the kinks on some of the triggers.

Yes! Access to pew-pew, boom, blam and kapow missions would be very cool
