I guess they don’t want to put down an important air base on the map and not have a buffer zone before the map ends. I mean, probably Deir ez Zor will be the limit (or near the limit) for the part of the map with 100% detailing and eastwards it will slowly get more and more desolated.
Do my eyes deceive me here (don’t see so well up close anymore), but a quick Google Earth sketch looks like this: current Syria map extended 250 KM (got real excited til I realized I’d left the units = NM!)
And just for grins, since I have it open, here’s PG, Syria, Syria proposed extension. All rough coords. I’m sure the kml/kmz’s are out there somewhere I just whipped it up real quick.
That would be nice. Maybe once they release the planned world update these two maps can be joined.
My guess is the 250km extension they are talking about is from the edge of the currently populated area of the map which extends roughly from the area around Ar Raqqah in a line north/south. One surprise is they extended it pretty far north into Turkey with the addition of Şanlıurfa and Ataturk Dam.
I don’t understand how anyone can play the same game all the time for any length of time. I play DCS once a week, sometimes 2-3 times. I’ll fly Il-2 once or twice a week, or maybe skip a week or two.
In fact, there is NO game I play daily, and while some games I do play several times a week it still usually adds up to no more than an hour per day over the course of it.
Of COURSE you’re going to burn out on whatever it is doing it that much. Does anyone just listen to the music of one artist for months at a time? Nothing but Stones! Does anyone watch just one thing on TV for months at a time? Just baseball games, 4+ hrs per day, 7 days/week! Does anyone eat the same food every day for months at a time? People are not wired like that.
I have over a dozen games on my PC I play regularly (at least a few times per month) and probably another dozen that are played far less often. I never burn out on any of them unless they have an awful amount of bugs or (like the latest Doom Eternal game) turn me off by bad design decisions that stopped me after like 4 hrs of playing.
In short, it’s better to wish you had more time to do X than actually get to spend more than that and realize all the flaws and stop liking it.
Aww now i feel selfish and awful wondering in my head how all that over there might affect DCS. I didnt realise they had a presence in kyiv.
Hope they all stay safe.
We often recreate the battlefield here, but in reality it’s abhorrent and heartbreaking when our leaders can’t find a diplomatic solution to their disagreements. Without taking sides, I worry for the sons, daughters, loved ones, and friends who will undoubtedly be lost. Gone forever, because those who we chose to lead us are failing again.
This is great news, have been hoping this would happen - gotta say it makes me a little crazy that it’ll have taken like 5 years, but for now I’m just gonna be happy that it’s an actual thing. There’s even an excel spreadsheet!
Hey Doug, hope that you are well. My understanding is that by default if you leave an MP server, that your mission is saved in your Saved Games folder as a track in \Users<Windows Profile>\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Tracks\Multiplayerr, and that the host server also keeps a copy of the whole mission. But I don’t think that you can hit a hotkey and save a mission mid session. Only if you leave a session and return. As usual, those with more experience, or a keener intellect, feel free to correct me.
Thank you, Dan! I’ve been trying to use the save capability when hosting a MP session, and that doesn’t see to work. Never thought it would need to be through the dedi server. Sounds like I need to activate that old laptop in the closet to the task.
