I went for a fly in the Caucasus today to use the working NDBs and wow its looking quite special, I think its had all its textures redone.

Finally had some time to take out that beast for a joy ride. It’s quite heavy and you can feel it, lots of inertia. At 350 kph retreating blad stall will ruin your day so pay attention to your speed. Doing rolls is easy, doing loops practically impossible (at least for me right now).

I put this simple mission in the editor and flew for almost 1h. Landed one time, nothing fancy. Apparently only for flying the Hind you get promoted to LtCol.

BTW Obi just got up for a night time wee wee and poked his head through the door and exclaimed “daddy, is that the crocodile helicopter from the museum” I am so proud right now.
Lara pointed to the sky and shouted “atlas” at an A400m overhead as well.

Just completed a sightseeing flight around the new Cyprus and section of the map and I’ve gotta say they did a great job.
Flying a helicopter for the first time in this sim reminds me a lot of the warbirds, lots of trim and management of the stick to get it where I want it to go.

I thought I was just seeing things the first time I loaded up the Caucasus post-update, but it’s confirmed over at the other forums that they did indeed update the map textures. A very welcome surprise, in my opinion!

Patrolling along the Iran-Iraq border way up on the northwest section of the Persian Gulf map. Very long distances from Shiraz International Airport. Tanker support needed.

It’s working on my end, RCtrl+Pause for me. I’m not flying VR though
RCtrl+Pause for me too, in VR. Depending on what country/language your keyboard is it might be something else.

Those new-ish single missions that have been popping up in DCS lately for the spitfire are really good!
These are from sight seeing what the AI were up to after I was promptly blasted to oblivion by flak in the radar attack one, thought the damage modeling was pretty neat.
This AI escort ended up ditching in quite a picturesque spot; I thought for sure he’d fall off the edge but stopped in the nick of time.

Some shots of Barthek’s gorgeous 2021 Caucasus terrain textures. I’m disappointed these didn’t become the new default terrain textures but I’m guessing the ED team wasn’t aware of their development before they committed to using the CGTC mod. Barthek’s terrain texture quality far exceeds anything done previously for the Caucasus map. It’s like having a entirely new map honestly.

His winter textures in particular are gorgous. The sad part is that ED was probably aware of his development, as they’ve always been aware of his mods and banned him from the ED forums because of them. Though I think that was technically because he was asking for donations to help development, if I recall correctly.
That was Starway that was banned. Barthek’s textures are so much better and he’s never been banned to my knowledge. I’d be interested to know what ED’s excuse is for not using these as they are light years ahead of the CGTC mod one’s they used instead.
