Absolutely impressive shots.
I got tired of Nevada and threw myself straight into a Liberation 3.0 campaign, Vietnam-style. Sortie No1: Iron Hand Gudauta. Task: Suppress an SA-2 NNW of the airfield while other A-4s suppress ADA sites, with Buffs coming in to bomb the runway after. (Mix of in-game screens and video screengrabs).
Singleton Launch
En route
On ingress I thought I saw fighters, so I ducked behind the mountains, which made me a bit late on my TOT. Not to mention dangerous to approach from the mountains with no ability to duck behind them or get below the SA-2’s WEZ if it fired on me. Diving down the slope I let loose both my Shrikes and took out the track radar right as it was firing on another friendly in the package.
Mopped up the launchers with Rockeyes and guns.
Then the Buffs came and did their thing, knocking out Gudauta airfield.
Culminating in three go arounds and a 1-wire because the Scooter is by far the most difficult aircraft I’ve ever tried to land. It sinks like a brick as soon as I’m on-speed AoA.
“Power. Poowweerr… POWER!!”
“Waive-off, waive-off.”
I hear that a lot no matter what I’m flying lol. In Raven One I averaged 3 bolsters per trap, I think I’d be in trouble in with the CAG IRL…
Awesome pics!
While I agree with this, do you follow the manual with regards to the speed brakes?
IIRC they should be extended on glideslope.
This helps keep your engine RPM higher, so you have some semblance of responsiveness to throttle movements
Nice. I like the old school jet stuff, manual delivery and all that crusty stuff!
I’ve tried both with speedbrakes and without. With speedbrakes I plummet like a rock. Without speedbrakes I float away. I tried APC and it nearly put me in the water. At first I thought I was too heavy, so I checked max trap weight: 14.5, which is roughly 2.7 fuel with no stores. I’m trapping at 1.0 with an empty 300gal tank (~200lbs) so I should be well within the best performance around the boat. I guess it’s just the engine lag that’s getting me. Even with the boards out and engine spooled up at a higher RPM, the margin between a ramp strike and ballooning feels to be about 1% RPM.
I am having too much fun with Liberation 3.0. A few screengrabs that won’t go in my AARs, but the video footage these came from is dooooooooooope.
A Hind with UN livery and dispensing rockets like that is a bit of a …
but still pretty badass.
Not sure why? Ukraine deployed the Hind in UN service in Congo.
It’s a mental image really- I always imagined UN vehicles unarmed and merely for defense.
Not reality, as you point out. Yet still…
Oh…!
Well, they are mostly armed in a mission of offensive defense of somebody else.
Keeping the peace, often means going to war.
Weren’t they deployed in Kosovo as well?
They had tanks in Mogadishu
I don’t like helicopters very much but I’d love to see that little bugger in DCS
Oh yeah…!
