DCS 2.8 Experiencing Screen Flicker Since last Update

Hey all,

Since the last update, I’ve noticed a lot of screen flickering with multithreading in both monitor and VR. Interestingly, the flickering is worse on monitor than in VR. More interesting is the number of events since my last flight: NVIDIA drivers updated, DCS updated, and I started flying in Sinai. So, it might be a challenge to figure out the culprit. I haven’t yet tested with the normal executable but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any flickering.

Troubleshooting this should be fun.

I noticed some screen flickering on my desktop after upgrading the nVidia drivers, but it went away after a reboot. Haven’t seen them come back. Good luck!

I’ll definitely try a reboot. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that work. Thanks.

I have experienced some flickering if I have any programs/windows in the background that aren’t minimized. So the solution for me is just to manually minimize every window

Thanks. That’s rather interesting because one would think that the sim would pull “focus.” Still, it’s understandable because some things, graphic drivers, OpenXR, etc., have to run in the background for certain features to work.

I’ve noticed that my ButtKicker doesn’t always kick in as it should. It rarely happens but on those rare occasions, I have to “wake” up the drivers. I also have a hodgepodge of hardware, each requiring specific drivers for full functionality. I guess there are occasions when they compete which could cause some of my issues. The feedback is helping me brainstorm. Thanks again.

Yeah, it’s weird. But with the ButtKicker; make sure that your “USB selective suspending” is turned off. And try turning off power management in Device Manager

Thanks. I’ll double-check those options. I think they are off because of issues I had with my USB hubs.

I seem to get flicker in the right lens of my quest … but only after using the f10 map and it also seems to get a lag effect when moving your head around quite noticeable when looking the the instruments … again only after opening the f10

Seems like a software issue.

That still sucks but at least implies that it is fixable. Anyway, I did a full shutdown/restart and that seems to have minimized the issue. I still get flicker but it is now intermittent rather than constant.

I’m looking into streamlining things I have running in the background. I have a lot of mixed hardware, each requiring their own drivers for full functionality and I suspect, based on the behavior of my ButtKicker, they may be competing for focus. I also suspect that my system has become “bloated” so I’m considering a Windows reset. I’ve done it successfully in the past but these days I’d rather be flying than troubleshooting.
