Lots of big holes in that area from ‘Tallboys’ and ‘Grand Slams’. Also various range/TArget markers can be seen on google earth, even more if you walk over the former range - now part of a national park.
Is the proper name Ashley Range? Not being a Brit, I’m lost between Ashley, Ashley Walk, Ashley Walk Range, and Ashley Range.
Ashley is the area. Ashley (Range) walk is a walking route in the National Park. Ashley Range is the name of the Range. @Clutch
On that note, I’m having trouble with dead reckoning in the warbirds. No wind, added magnetic declination to my flight plan true headings, set my gyro compass to magnetic heading (toolbar), trimmed out with no slip, and I’m always ending up a couple miles left of where I want to be. Is this the gyroscopic forces pulling me left, and how do I correct my course along the way to hit my waypoints?
Magnetic declination varies across the map. Maybe that’s it?
As @Derbysieger said, magnetic variation changes as you fly east/west. You need to alter the heading accordingly or take the average. I suspect however th problem is in (1) the accuracy of setting the gyro (2) accuracy of maintaining the heading.
Uhmmm new patch…
I scan the gyro compass every 30 seconds so unless there’s an accuracy issue with the compass itself I doubt that’s it. I thought declination variation on Normandy was only 10-12 (compass rose on the beaches shows 11 I think) so I’ve been doing 10 as average. Is there a way to check declination of a specific point on the map?
Not that I know off.
I dont know if dcs is this realistic but all manualy slaved gyro compassess drift about 5 degrees every 15 minutes so have to be reset in the real world. Not a problem with automatically slaved systems.
Yes, you can use the compass rose that ED implemented last year (I think? might have been in longer).
It’ll show magnetic declination for its current position and you can simply place it whereever you want to see the declination at any given point.
Edit:
I could do with a little advice. I’ve been doing the Apache start-up tute missions a few times and moved on to the taxi one - and found I just can’t taxi in this machine. I have no issues in the Ka-50 and Hip, but this one won’t budge at all.
Any ideas what could be holding me back? I follow the instructions, and the collective is definitely rising - the aircraft is not moving, though. I think once it rotated on the spot when I used the pedals, but wouldn’t go forwards.
I’m off to try it again, but would appreciate any tips on the possible reason for this.
Do you have your parking brake on? Throttles open?
Yo, sounds like a throttle issue.
I would check parking brake, tailwheel lock, and throttles in that order. It should be fairly easy to taxi if everything in that list is correct. Wheels for the win, way better than skids! (not as cool though)
Thanks for suggestions - I have no idea what it was (definitely not parking brake or throttle as I specifically checked those, multiple times) but today it worked as it should
Although I did learn that the damage model/hitpoints are totally messed up! I forgot that this once I had reversed my throttle so that I had to pull it up & back to increase collective and when I wanted to zero it on the pad, I actually shoved it to maximum! Boy, was that a laugh. I was actually recording it in the Pico headset, as I wanted to be able to check and show it if the taxi bit didn’t work again.
That helicopter was bouncing around like a rubber ball - but no worries, in the end I got what was left of it to settle nicely on the pan. Minus tail, rotors and other bits.
I’m sure you’ve all seen this in the newsletter:
We have improved the overall stability of the voice chat connection between users, even when using a VPN. We are now working on realistic radio sound effects and the possibility for players to create their own radio sound effect profiles. We’ve added static noises for better immersion and a microphone normalization feature with an updated mic test option. Many bugs have also been resolved when talking over the radio between different aircraft modules.
We have also added the ability to mute individual players and adjust the volume of specific channels. This gives players greater control over their communication and reduces potential radio distractions during gameplay.
The improvements to the integrated DCS World Voice Chat system are significant, and it will greatly enhance the overall experience. We are pleased to let you know that these enhancements are in final testing and that they will be released soon.
I’ve never used this as it came in after my last online group finished. I could have really done with it then, though, as I disbanded the group due to two of the guys having constantly open microphones. The mute function would have saved me having to do that.
I got sick of hearing their TVs and people shouting all the time, even after I politely mentioned that I could hear it while flying. Someone once had the News At Ten on and I clearly heard everything in the program while I was doing a joint attack with him in the Ka-50s on a hillside bunker. Far from immersive!
Despite my lack of flying any of the many campaigns I have I just bought another 3 this evening. Will I ever get to fly them? Well, I honestly hope so.
I almost bought another 3 - but I am boycotting flying for the Russians.
That’s a whole lot of ‘on-target information’
@Johnny Do start flying them. I have finished a few campaigns and started many more, but so far every mission has been well worth my time!
