DCS 2.8

Does She handle any better with full loads and fuel???
Patch notes mention they tweaked the Flight model…just wondering if She has more power?

In a nutshell, it is much more stable. Even George AI as pilot flies better. The transition from flight mode to hover appears to be smoother.

Heh, I still can’t fly that thing for chips. Crashed two apaches in as many flights  They huey in the other hand has all the power now, and jumps off the ground. Very nice.

Regarding the Huey on todays update. It has destroyed the handling charecteristics of the best simulated helicopter. I will not fly it again until it is fixed. The old version was far superior.

In level flight, close the throttle. No requirement for an autorotation. You can still climb and operate normally as rotor rpm does not go down. No need to bottom the collective.

On the ground, throttle closed, rpm in gound idle you can take off and fly.

Ugly Angels just flew it for an hour. Our verdict was can we have the old Huey back please.

Sounds like the Huey is bugged and needs a hotfix. That doesn’t sound like an FM tweak.

Worked fine this morning.

Could be they did some improvements to helicopter flight dynamics that was aimed at the Apache, but unfortunately broke the Huey. I’m sure they will fix it.

I haven’t tried the new Hellfires yet as I heard there’s some bug with George enabling LST on start or something. I did do a quick CASE I circuit in the F-14A and love the new ground handling and nosegear bounce on traps. OK-underline, SLOX #3 as always…LSO was kind to overlook my LUL because I was definitely not on centerline lol.

That’s too bad about the Huey. The Apache is noticeably easier, now.

Am I missing something on the Huey… is this one of those ignorance is bliss moments? I feel like its got more power than ever, handles well, even more fun to fly than before… which was quite fun. Its nice to be able to hover with a load now.

The Huey’s engine was upgraded to the new API developed for the Apache and is more accurate.
(WAY MORE ACCURATE).

Like,. it’s a totally different Helo that it was before accurate.

I haven’t tried the Huey since the upgrade, but read @scoops post above about being able to take off with the engine in idle. Is anyone able to reproduce this?

Edit.
I had a look in the ED forums and @bignewy confirms they are tweaking it.

We are looking at the data and found some things we would like to tweak, so please be patient while we work on it.

It was spoilt for me as after initial lift off a cut throttle @ 500’ is the first check I do for realism - it failed. Once on the ground I then found I could take off with ground idle rotor and throttle at min. After that I gave up and undid the latest mod. The guys on black angels quickly changed to other helicopters after replicating the faults I found and others I didnt

Shame I can’t fly helicopters at the moment. I do hope that will change - they are my preferred vehicle in DCS World and I’m keen to fly some of the campaigns I bought for them. I’m intrigued over this news on the Huey.

EvenThe Big Eggbeater Mi-8 is much stronger…less likely to get into VRS when Fat-n-Slow

Is that because you do not yet know how to or some technical reason? If the former I am the same time zone and only a bit up the road from you. I was also a professional flight instructor. If technical Iknow some folks who have the knowledge…

Seconded, let me know if there’s something we can help with @Johnny

Thanks guys but no, it’s a physical difficulty. I’ve been flying DCS rotaries since Black Shark 1 - in fact I still have it installed on my WinXP PC. It used to be my favourite module and the one I knew best.

I have a painful right leg for most of the day, every day since early April - it’s to do with my messed up nervous sytem due to ankylosing spondylitis. I can’t see the specialist until the end of June - don’t know if he can do anything then. It’s the same reason I have to sell my motorbike. Same reason I can’t do driving sims now - even a struggle to get in/out of and drive my real car. These things happen, it’s life and what it can throw at us.

Oh Brother that Sucks!!! I’m very sorry You are going through this difficult time.
I wonder if you would consider a twist grip axis on your joystick as a Rudder?? It’s what We all used to use “Back-n-The Day” before Rudder Pedals became a “Must Have” At least you would be able to enjoy the Simulation Experience?
