DCS 2.8

Thanks - don’t know if I would be happy with the twist stick, though. I did use my old Sidewinder Pro once, when I was in-between HOTAS and it worked very well with the Ka-50. I also remember once on a server when I suddenly lost the use of my HOTAS (nothing unusual with that release of the sim) I won a bet with a guy in my flight that I could finish the mission and land my Ka-50 using just the keyboard.
It was, well, interesting. Doubt if I’d want to do it like that all the time, though!
I’m so used to using the pedals now. Never know, it may be possible with my Saitek ones - they are slide forwards and backwards, rather than my usual pedals which are like proper helicopter ones and require my foot to be rested on them all the time - that’s the really painful thing. Sliding isn’t usually painful - but it is risky.

you are getting old @Johnny

imagine that you have flown for some time IRL with the proper plane with a stick in your right hand and throttle in your left. then you will sit in the e.g. Cessna and they will say to you to grab the yoke with your left hand and grab the throttle with your right.
you just get used to all this. and one can even get used to use twist stick or gamepad. I am flying with gamepad also.

and regarding the rudders, here is some quote from some book

The important thing to understand about the rudder pedals is that they are unnecessary; like your wisdom teeth, they serve no very good purpose but can cause much trouble. The airplane needs no rudder pedals. It should have no rudder pedals. In all probability it will have no rudder pedals 10 years hence.

and I am even flying with gamepad the Schweizer 300 in XP11 with manual throttle control  no kidding

You hang in there and be tough. I know you can do a twist stick. Its better than not flying.
Youll get used to it

Tailwheel airplanes would certainly be much safer ten years from now, as if you removed the rudder pedals they’d all be balled up aluminum

Might struggle to rotate my whirlybirds without them. Of course back in the day Z and X rotated my Apache as much as I needed to stem the red horde!

Everyone’s worried about the Strike Eagle release date and I’m over here wondering whatever happened to the C-130J project…

Can we call it the Scania map?

EDIT: Ok actually not- I thought it meant something different. So… Scandinavia?

Well I’m sorry to say that I must be the only one who isn’t looking forward to the F-15E release! :stuck_out_tongue:

Never been my cup of tea. I know all forums and download sections and so on will be all about it, but that’s fine, I’ll just coast on through like I did with previous popular aircraft I had no interest in. Hope you guys enjoy it :+1:

Also looking forward to the Baltic map - with fabulous memories of my young wargaming days…

Used to enjoy that. I had all the fleet series.

@Johnny they are now available on VASSAL for pc’s but no rules or paperwork

Skyraider too, but I’m not holding my breath.

Thanks - that’s very interesting. I’d not heard of VASSAL before, but I’ll give it a go. I could scan my stuff, too. At least the rules would be easy. The maps could be done bit by bit and joined together in paintshop.

Have to check the gen.

Eh, they come when they come.
Tornado, Eurofighter, MiG-23, F-4…
I mean, look at the Apache, it only took a decade to get it! So have a little patience!

@Johnny
The maps are already there. The counters are there. Some VASSAL modules you can find the rules onine. Not so far for any of the fleet series. Easy to play online against an opponent.

Scandes works too, which is the name of the mountain range that’s the basis of the name. Which is also why Iceland technically isn’t part of Scandinavia. But Nordic and Scandinavia are usually used interchangeably in English.
Random rant over.
