DCS 2.8

Oh yeah I give you that.

A Draken, A Draken, A Draken!!!

Slow down heart! Slow breaths! Slow breaths!

In the fashion of Queens ā€œI want it all and I want it now!!!ā€

I just wanna know if we eventually will get a playable one!

Yeah a few people picked up on that in the video. I’m very curious myself.

That’s because the correct designation is SK60

And no, it’s no Frogfoot. The SK60 is a trainer with light attack capability.
A Tweetybird is indeed closer in comparison.

BAAS are indeed working on one.
Check out their discord.

We were just trying multicrew and then flying separately on a server in the Gazelles, but there was an issue with the throttle seeming to die or reduce very quickly for no apparent reason. Is anyone aware of a bug or something that is known for the gazelle online?

In previous versions, this happened after crashing the helicopter while in multicrew. It used to occur immediately on next startup. Only way to reset it was to restart DCS. Maybe it is still happening but with some delay now.

We did crash on a different server before that.

I’m using a Virpil throttle and I just saw a post by someone who has similar issues and he has a Virpil throttle, too. He said the sim was reporting different input range than he was applying, according to the VPC software.

It can get a bit wayward with input reporting - I think their software is not the most robust. I’ve had quite a few ā€œEh?!ā€ moments over the years - sometimes it just stops sending input signals for a few minutes, then just corrects itself and is fine for months.

has anyone else had issues with the MP server list taking ages to populate … i have just tried twice and it got to about 1700 servers with 3000 ish players but it took about 5 min to get there… have just done a full repair on the installation … i wasn’t sure if it was the saturday night effect

Has been taking a while for me - though I never wait for the full list. As soon as my faves are up I go - or use the search which seems to hurry up getting them listed.

I always filter by region (which narrows it down a lot for me), but I did notice it was taking longer to get the regions dropdown list filled the other day.

Pretty sure I won’t get it now. I have enough going on without having to learn a whole load of new systems for an entire aircraft. With the promised full detail on every rivet, I don’t think I’d be doing much with it.
I think I’m going to stick with what I’ve got - haven’t flown many of them near enough in any case and I’m not getting any younger.

The one with the most DCS modules, when keeling over, wins!

As I’ve been explaining to Freak on pm, I’ve been having serious issues with the OB. Firstly the sim is taking a ridiculous amount of time to load up and get into a stable, usable state to start off with.
Then the server list is loading slowly, in a stutterfest of a mess. It’s difficult to actually select a server, though not impossible.

Then when i get on the server, the missions are taking even longer to load than the sim is to start. And even then, once into the mission - if it finishes loading at all - it rarely settles down enough for me to be able to do anything in the cockpit.
Even after the aircraft etc has spawned it’s still a few minutes before I can try and get on with starting or calling Freak.
I recorded this shambles in my Pico - I’ll see what it looks like later and upload if it’s worth it.

Today I went back to stable and the difference is gobsmacking. Sim loads quickly, server list fills quickly (though not as many, but there’s no stutters), server mission loads fine and then I have similar performance to offline, with a solid 45fps.

This is a perfect example of why I have stuck to the stable release version. Yes, OB may work fine for some, but clearly something is well pear-shaped. I’ll be staying on stable, thanks!

PS - no mods or tweaks

Here ya go - it’s two video clips together, the first showing the mess that is the server list/lobby and the second part is how it was when I finally managed to get onto a server.
It was the same on a second server as well.

The session Freak & I had a couple of days previously wasn’t as bad as this once I was in the server, but it still didn’t work right and we had to give up and the server list was the same stutterfest as shown here.

I see in the vid you are using SteamVR. I heard about problems with SteamVR in multithreading.

If this is not fixed by the time all the multithreading and other beta stuff gets to stable, I would you try using OpenXR. And maybe multithreading too. Not sure what the steps are for using OpenXR with Pico+VirtualDesktop (which if I understand correctly, presents itself as a Quest headset), but hopefully someone here or elsewhere on the internet can share at least how it’s done for the Quest

I feel like this may be worth a separate topic in in the Tech Questions category.

This is probably a dumb question, and I apologize for even asking, but I assume you’ve already done a full repair, right?

Twice - I did two clean-ups and two repairs, both of which revealed nothing.

It isn’t long since I did a complete clean reinstall of the sim and it had been performing flawlessly. Well, as flawlessly as is possible

Best performance I’d seen in VR since 1.5.6

Yeah the Open beta (and closed beta, if I may) both suffer from massive loading times and it’s not circumventable.

It will get better- don’t quote me on that, it’s my hope- but for now the most approachable version is definitely the Stable.
