Several cool fixes, and a huge addition of multi-crew for the Mi-8, bravo!
Playing another mission in Bold Cheetah (free F/A-18C campaign in user files, highly recommend it, excellent quality. Consider it as good as Raven One, which sets the standard IMO), I thought I'd discovered a bug during Hornet cold start up on the super carrier:
Everything went normally except I couldn’t set trim for takeoff. Nothing was registering on the FCS page when I did my controls wipeout, and too dark to verify visually (my excuse, nothing to do with my neck!).
The FCS BIT had passed, and so I reset the FCS again, exercised it, checked wings locked and flaps set, no joy. The stick was working so not a binding issue, so I chalked it up to a bug on the FCS page and launched anyway instead of downing the jet. I immediately plummeted off the end of the cat with no opportunity to recover or eject. Kinda a disconcerting experience considering how much I fly the -18. I couldn’t duplicate the ‘bug’ in the cold start mission on subsequent attempt.
Turns out I left the FCS Test switch (right sidewall, behind your elbow) in the up position after the test. In the real jet the switch is momentary spring-loaded, and you hold it up for the test, then release. In my physical simpit, it’s a standard switch- for reasons of availability during assembly… Might have to accomplish a service bulletin to correct that. I did not know that it would disable the flight controls.
Just as a footnote to my last post to any Pico 4 users regarding Virtual Desktop beta. Don’t need Sidequest - just put the apk into your “Download” folder on the headset (after connecting to your PC via USB, of course) and then use the built in browser to go to the folder and select the VD apk file and it will give the option to install.
You can do the same for Sidequest VR if you want that on the headset, too. I found the desktop version didn’t work for it.
Might have just bought myself an early birthday present will buy a second one next month (on actual birthday) it worked out cheaper to buy one at a time … you don’t get hit with customs charges because a single one is under the threshold
i think there are more on the winwing … you have the standard 20 around the outside and then then a further 16 which are the button dividers, one rotary encoder, and a further 8 for the day/night, contrast, gain, and sym (have no idea what sym is)
Talking of MFDs - I have two TM Cougar MFDs that I’ve not used in years and likely never will again. They still have all the bits including original box etc - if anyone within reach wants them just give me a shout. Freebie.
While I got the F-15E throttle, I was not able to justify getting the MFDs or UFC from Winwing. I do a lot more than just fly DCS on my PC and the space/setup time required each time I put them on and then take them down just nixed it.
If I win a lottery and have room to make a separate “sim room”, then I will do that.
