Probably some tech guru will say yes with a symbolic link, but it might be easier just to move your whole install to the larger drive. It’s not that hard actually.
I use symbolic links / shortcuts for my installed mods now, works fine. I do not alter the base game, though. Unless you’re into fiddling with directories and shortcuts and such in the DCS core directory, I second @chipwich 's sentiment to move the whole install to a larger drive.
Is that 200gb size at phase one or final size … if that’s only phase 1 how big is the whole thing going to be
Real talk: I should apologize to ED for splitting up Iraq and A-stan. I thought it was a silly idea.
Seeing the eye-watering size of this? I legitimately see the value, now.
Thanks guys. I figured as much… I originally migrated DCS from a SATA SSD to the NVMe to run it off a faster drive, so not really a problem to move it back… I might even be able to reinstall the PG map (I removed that to DL Kola)
Totally depends on network speeds. With 2.5Gb ethernet it’s about the same as a SATA SSD. This is what I’m currently using - not as good as nvme inside the PC, but I think it is acceptable. Over 1 gig network it’s the same as a spinning HDD, so not really acceptable. I’m looking to upgrade my office to 10 gig ethernet down the line, and for frequently used stuff that should be comparable to an older (slower) nvme SSD.
Another point is how fast does the NAS actually go… my NAS is an old PC full of drives and as much memory as the motherboard will handle, so that speeds things up compared to a little two bay Synology, for example, which will be properly slow, even over a faster network

BIGNEWY
Current version number: DCS 2.9.14.8394
Next planned update: 16th April 2025 ( subject to change )
Speaking of musical drives my OS drive is maxed out with just Windows 10 and I can’t move it to another drive without getting a 7th disk…except I don’t have that many slots
OMFG … 200GB I have (thanks past-me for buying the 4TB SSD!) but now the RAM becomes the problem.
I only have 16GB.
But to buy new one means I waste money that I don’t have and could be better put to use towards a new machine.
Well, probable wouldn’t need it anyway- with my lackluster (but free) internet connection I couldn’t do multiplayer anyways…
Yeah > 200 GB, ouch. I wonder if it’s for the current Phase, because after Phase 3 with additional area and seasons thay may balloon even more.
I’m also on 16GB RAM, and this will probably be the cause for the upgrade. I might go straight to 64GB since I need to replace all my sticks (4x4GB). RAM nowadays isn’t that pricey anyways.
So, my current MoBo is the ASUS Z87-Plus Socket LGA 1150.
That means maximum DDR3 memory. At least it would be cheap?
I have 4 socket so that means 4 DIMM of 8GB each…
But I need it small as my Noctua Heatsink is literally occupying all the space above the sockets. Darn, I would probably have to remove it to install new RAM…
Darn darn darn…
Not only the map assets will grow but also the winter and autumn texture packs
Guten Morgen Rhineland???
Meanwhile I am also looking at - $55.99 USD at early access release…
And thanks to ‘global economic uncertainty’ our really shitty exchange rate at the moment means that is about hundred bucks in our currency. So, even though it looks awesome early access is out for me. I’m not dropping a ‘Benjamin’ on something that just ‘looks’ good.
Ouch ….thats the good thing about our exchange rate at the moment …it’s about £47
Question, if I was to buy it for you from my Euro-zone store, and send the code to you… how would that work? How’s the exchange?
Not sure how gifting works
Problem is, even the conversion AUS$ to EUR is -let’s say- unfavorable.
again over 100AUS$
RE Gifting- Oh yeah I remember now- it’s not as simple as just sending the Activation Serial anymore, right?
Can you get by with just removing the front fan?
If not, maybe it’s a sign that it is time to repaste the CPU cooler for best performance
I’ll send you a picture- not as easy.
