Yes. I got fed up with waiting for them to fix so many glaring issues, some of which were incorrect TACAN channels that could be fixed in a 10-second lua edit on the user end, combined with glacial development, near radio silence when issues were reported, and that fiasco where the whole northern part of Israel disappeared.

I uninstalled it because it was hogging space on my drive.

The Sinai was a bit of an impulse purchase for me and to be honest, I have hardly used it. The Balkans might be more interesting to me though. The terrain is certainly going to be more interesting.

I have it but don’t know what to do with it (un-installed for now myself).

Since my personal preference is for things based on historical actions (no need to be 100%, just reminiscent), the 1973 air war (Yom Kippur) would be a good idea.

But, as usual, we’re skosh on some assets (not too bad). However, the close proximity of forces would make this a challenge. I may do it since it would be a test of My Lil Project.

Now, Balkans - I’ve thought that the sweet spot for official mods has always been centered on this time (late 90’s - early 2000’s), give or take.

I was ready to use the Caucasus map as a stand-in for this conflict; it’s kind of perfect on the blue side: CV-based jets; land-based jets a safe (and long) way away from getting blown up in the chocks, etc.

I mean I am totally interested in the Balkans region, I just don’t have confidence in OnRetec doing it. If it were Ugra I’d be getting my wallet ready.

I actually think it’s going to be good. The Sinai map looks fantastic, performs good as well and has maybe the best night lighting of any DCS map. What I am a bit worried with OnReTech is their slow pace in fixing bugs. I don’t mind map updates taking long but bug fixes should come fairly quickly especially when it comes to things like airfields being unusable due to structures or trees blocking taxiways for example and Sinai still has issues with how they handle runway lights (they’re inactive by default and only activate when you call the ingame atc or enter a runway) but when they’re active they are actually visible from farther away than I have seen on any other map and the range at which lights are visible is much further than other maps as well.

However I have no doubt that the map is going to be worth it. I find the colours on the Sinai map to fit the area better than on the Syria map as well for example - I just whish they’d be better at fixing the maps issues.

unusual early announcement … normally comes in the evening after the weekly newsletter

Maybe they’re trying to change it up or something.

I for one, not excited about more maps. ED spends a lot of time hyping a module and it finally releases after years of waiting… It has a few missions in the original Caucasus map… and maybe a few more in the Marianas… and that is IT. Germany came out… you would think ED would add missions for the MiGs and the Huey… Nope, nothing… It seems like its the easiest content they could add.
ED, Hire a couple of teenagers to make missions and pay them with McDonalds coupons.

Its the ED way … they provide the tools and sandbox to play in, but you have to make up the game you want to play. I must admit I have thoroughly enjoyed flying with some of the guys over the germany map, the dynamic weather that @derby set up was amazing, you can watch rain storms move across the map as you fly in and out of them, and when we had a real ground control, well it just was chefs kiss. but I do think that DCS in its best form is multiplayer, single player to me is very dry, and just for learning the modules

I will keep saying it: there are great campaigns made with a lot of love and attention, tens of hours worth of high quality sim entertainment and you can buy them for the price of a good sandwich…
Baltic Dragon, Reflected and a few others make great campaigns and they have gotten very good at avoiding scripting jank/failures with experience and tooling they built up.

Pretty much. If I was in a milsim I’d play DCS more, but most of the time I’m plinking with HARMs at a static radar, but I just fly around and learn stuff as I go.

Late to this discussion but here’s hoping for a Chinese embassy and to have it located on the wrong part of the map. ‘Merika!
