It enabled itself after the update when I ran it through the new launcher. After turning it off, and disabling the launcher, it hasn’t turned itself back on.
The update has FUBAR’d the throttle axis assignments on a lot of modules. Z axis either changed to RZ, or RZ added to the already assigned Z axis, with the red exclamation mark and not responding when moved even after reassignment. Reassign, then restart DCS to fix. For me it affected the following (from memory):
Spitfire
P-51D
Bf 109
MiG-15
MiG-19 (added an axis assignment to “thrust” when I already had L/R throttles mapped)
So- I officially deleted all the WWII stuff, extra units, planes and all campaigns in general from DCS until I can get a new 4TB (or something) SSD.
Managed to update but not fly it as my GF arrived.
I messed around with the airboss station and it’s pretty cool. It looks like we can slot in, set course and speed (not much granularity on speed), set up the lights to our liking, then slot out and into a jet on the deck, and the course/speed/light settings will be saved without reverting to any kind of default.
The question remains if the default lights come back on once a jet starts taxiing or traps…
Definitely one of those folks affected by whatever is going on with FC3 content. I was in the mood to fly around in the MiG-29 the other night, and I’m not even showing it in the module manager.
It doesn’t look like the English Supercarrier Operations Guide has been updated since 2021. From videos and trying it out, here are some of the controls. This as far as I’ve gotten. In fact, the controls don’t allow me to interact with them, even though I’m in Alt+C (interaction) mode. A mission editor setting?
AIR BOSS: RALT + F9
MOVE: W, A, S, D
LOOK: MOUSE
ZOOM/FOCUS: RT-MOUSE CLICK
INTERACTION: LALT + C (ENABLES OBJECT CONTROLS)
Yeah there’s an editor setting. Click on the carrier in your mission, and at the bottom of the window where you input the unit name, radio freq, etc. there’s checkboxes for the Airboss station and the LSO station. With those enabled, they will appear as client slots.
The mouse interaction can only be done through those slots.
Welp I was finally able to go convoy hunting with the Apache tonight and maybe I just got lucky but the convoys seemed very unaware of my presence until I closed the distance between us. I did have vehicles shoot back but many targets were eliminated at max range and never saw me. I love ground pounding so this part of the update is a huge win lol
One thing that’s been driving me nuts since the last few 2.9 updates is that carrier lights (supercarrier, Forrestal, Tarawa) no longer illuminate the cockpit like they used to 6 months ago.
That actually sounds more accurate; a carrier flight deck is dark AF at night, and you don’t want it being lit up like an oil refinery or factory ship if you can avoid it.
That’s besides the point though. The flood lights are on illuminating everything except the cockpit, which had been illuminated before. Which is less realistic in the sense that lights aren’t illuminating something.
Now if the lights were all off it would be more realistic, sure. Then we’d need to wait for the taxi directors to move anywhere.
Can’t film myself from the Airboss view either since player/client cockpits disappear and the aircraft LODs get messed up
In case anyone missed it, Chuck has released his guide for the F-15E (and if you also missed it in the update notes, the radar is working again in the current patch).
