Alright - I can’t figure out this one for some reason, I must just not be hitting the right switch. After a cold start in the A-10C, I get everything up and running. The EGI is aligned “4.0.0.2” or whatever the EAC is on, radar altimeter is on. I’m given a navigation solution on the TAD and everything is fine…but for some reason my CDU is showing an ALIGN message still - are one of my two CDU knobs set on the wrong detent? I’m trying to enter manual LAT/LON in the CDU (part of the mission requirement) but I’m still seeing ALIGN. Point the monkey at the stupid mistake please.
On the CDU page you have to hit nav mode and make sure under the HSI you have the egi button selected
These two things, I think.
Yeah… I was … like. Totally that. sneer OBVIOUSLY! noob…
Yeah - I did those two things. But I still have ALIGN. The thing is, I’ve done that process a hundred times, but now I can’t figure out something weird. Does it stay in ALIGN until airborne and then switch over to another mode?
For instance - in this start video the guy has done everything but you still see ALIGN on the CDU:
I think my knobs are in the wrong position. I think that’s it. During this point in a video you can see the ALIGN come up as he flips through the knob positions…
Confirmed - I had the rotary in the wrong position. When they are in FLT PLAN and OTHER you get the ALIGN message. Stupid monkey. Bad monkey.
Now another stupid question - I notice the LAT/LON on the CDU are given in degrees/minutes/decimal (not seconds)…so do I need to convert 30 seconds to .5 when entering in the CDU? and 15 to .25 etc…?
Yep! Same as the Mirage.
I can’t tell you how GOOD it feels to see a pilot I respect be a complete dumba$$ just like me!
Ever turn inbound on an ILS only to realize you are still on FMS mode or VOR? That’s always a great feeling.
Yes.
Only, more than once.
It explains sooooo much
