It seems like most solo fliers are sitting in the CPG seat, letting George do the flying. Am I the only one doing the flying and letting George shoot things?
For what itās worth, ED has said there will be a two week free-to-play period coming up soon, if thereās any question about whether the Apache is worth it.
I was hesitant to pre-order it as freetime has been short latelyā¦but I also lack self-control soooo:
I suffer from the same conditionā¦
Ill be honest, i only let George fly because he is better at flying than me
I suggest mapping an obscure keyboard combo to the trigger guards and set it to off at the beginning of a flight. In the real aircraft, the trigger guard is a āflippy thingā that the pilotās finger sort of naturally flips out of the way when he goes for the trigger.
In the front seat, the TEDAC hand grip trigger does not have a trigger guard so mapping to that vs the cyclic trigger works.
BTW, is it me or do the CPG hand grips look remarkably like an X-Box controller? Can you put an C-Box controller on a PC?
Sort ofā¦with the dashed I-Beam you also get a PYLON LIMITS (or something like that) above the FOR box. The limits are the articulation limits of the rocket pod, Up/Top and Down/Bottom stops.
So yes, too far or too close for the rocket pods in the current pitch attitude of the aircraft. Changing the pitch attitude, while maintaining aim at the target can (sometimes) bring the I-Bar back to āsolidā.
Self control when it comes to adding to my virtual hangar is not something I am well known for . There are several fairly imminent MSFS aircraft that have my attention as well, so this could end up being an expensive few weeks.
Iām actually swapping between both seats as I configure my controls to my liking and get a feel for the solo flight experience. Personally, despite my frustrations as a helo pilot, Iām enjoying the solo experience much better in the Apache than the Tomcat. Iām not sure if Iām comparing apples VS oranges or if itās a George thing.
So. Had a fly around. Didnt bend it. This is a first for me with DCS choppers.
That said. I dont like it. Its not for me at all. Prefer the hind and the MI8. Its too complicated, too many buttons, too much going on and it gives me a headache. Im not knocking the module, its spectacular. The meat sitting in the seat just hasnt got time to sit and figure it all out. The trim just confuses me.
Ill stay red on the helicopters i think.
Can you ask a refund?
No i wouldnt refund it. Ive been wrong before about a module. Plus i like to support ED where possible so ill keep it.
Its just not for me at the moment. Im more of a gazelle person ive decided. I need a big red button that says FIRE on it. Not 16 pages of MFD to remember
ROFL! I can imagine!
Respect.
Have George fly for you, Gives you more time in the front seat to blow stuff up.
@Victork2 Before you set it aside entirely watch this guys Hellfire tutorial. I might never be able to go back to the Gazelle (not true) but the fact that the Hellfire has twice the range of the HOT might keep you in the Apache lol
my first flights were a complete wobbly mess ⦠but after some tweeking of the contol curves and saturation ā¦and a lot of practice i can now hold a semi respectable hover⦠but still have moments wiith the trim⦠even the black magic that is the sharks autopilot/trim seems easy compaired to this
I had the opposite experience. I actually flew it around and hovered fairly respectably, much better than i managed with the Hind.
Its the rest of it that just baffles me.
Except the trim. The trim SUCKS
Not at all, pretty much unless I want to hit a certain target with rockets, or am going to be using hellfires Iāll let George queue stuff up and shoot from the back seat. He does a pretty solid job on the cannon.
You used to be able to using a bluetooth adapter. I havenāt looked into it in years, but Iād imagine something similar is there.
Shooting things can be complicated, as itās a 2 person aircraft weāre fighting solo. However if you have trackIR or VR, it boils down to put the IHADDS crosshair on the thing, hit the WAS (four way weapon selector like the hornet in A2A) in the direction of gun or rockets, and fly to within constraints and pull the trigger. Itās doable without trackIR or VR, just takes some finesse on the view keys.
Iām not sure how everyone is getting so confused on the trim. Make sure in the special settings menu you have it set to match the type of joystick you have (ffb, spring center, no spring center). From there when flying get the stick into the correct position and hit the trim. If youāre using the spring center option return the stick to the center position, and youāre done. Need to make a correction? Move the stick, tap trim, recenter the stick. Repeat as needed. Same for your pedals in all respects. Trim constantly and consistently.
Yeah, with an XBox controller, I believe that you can just connect with the appropriate cable. I have to use an XBox controller emulator for my PS4 controllers, but it works fine. Using it for the drone camera in MSFS.
The charging cable that comes with the controller or that you have laying around will work just fine.
I bought the usb thingy to keep the controller wireless. Works great!, never used it for DCS but canāt imagine it not working.
