Yeah, I was kind of hoping they’d make an A. As an early 80’s jet, it would fit perfectly.
But NOOOOO…
Everybody want sensors and screens and stuff. ![]()
Yeah, I am one of those.
I think the C is the perfect choice. I would very likely not have bought an A.
As for the later models: many of them became ugly, destroying the nice look of the jet with stuff like CFTs and that weird spine. Example:

I quite like those CFTs they look pretty badass to me. I always like more fuel as well ![]()
That’s to the Viper what the Mudhen is to the Eagle. You lose agility for better bombtruckery.
Not to mention more/better electronics…
The packed a SPJ in there, right?
Aye- Israelis are pretty top notch when it comes to electronics like that.
Frees up an extra hardpoing, though the centerline is pretty limited due to its ground clearance.
Oh, that jet is definitely great technology-wise.
I still think that the Colani-like (RIP btw.) rounded shapes were what made the original design so beautiful.
I can understand the divide between “Beautiful” and “Upgraded”. ![]()
For instance, I prefer my wife “Beautiful” rather than “Upgraded”. ![]()
Butt… there’s plenty of men that prefer their wives “Upgraded”
(that went a bit too meta)

Hey everyone, a little Viper update is in order as we approach early Autumn 2019.
First, we still plan to release the Viper into early access sometime in early Autumn 2019. We don’t have a specific day because several items are in flux, and any one of them could change any announced date. While we posted 25 September on Steam (a day is required to list a product on Steam), that is only a best estimate and not in stone. Once we have a firm date, we will announce it. This is not something we are purposely withholding.
The big areas we are working on to get the Viper before we release it:
- Finalizing CCIP and CCRP bombing modes.
- Tuning the flight model and braking system. Much of this involves drag values.
- RWS and ACM air-to-air radar modes.
- Air-to-air gun, AIM-9, and AIM-120.
- CMDS.
- HMCS.
- Cold start procedures.
- Tuning the NVIS cockpit lighting.
- External model, in particularly the landing gear and aircraft underside. Even at early access release, the skin will still be preliminary.
- We are also working hard on the Litening targeting pod with LGBs, but we can’t promise this will be ready in time for the early access release, but it’s something already well underway.
Thanks,
Wags
Considering the wait for the TGP on the Hornet having it missing at launch on the Viper isn’t a big deal, to me anyway.
Having no prior sim experience in a F-16, I’ll have enough learning all the new systems, their implementations, dozens of new acronyms, and practicing the basics.
You wot mate?! Get your F4 BMS on right NAO! You have quite an experience to ‘first-time’ ![]()
Actually, I’m saving my Viperginity for the right bird.
Some of us aren’t in a rush! To each his own!

I wonder when they get going on the ground radar…?
I do want the Viper when it’s done, but, now they have two birds in development thats supposed to be equipped with ground radar, and it’s been awfully quiet about it’s progress. Two weeks I guess ![]()
For the F-16? Much simpler A/G radar than the Bug. The APG-68 version for an '07 USAF F-16C50 is not nearly as complex a radar as the APG-73.
But still, been very quite about AG radar…
For both really. We haven’t heard a peep about it for ages, unless I missed it?
with respect Franze, I don’t think the complexity of the system is the issue here (is that viper bashing i’m reading there?^^) my bet is on the rendering of a realistic picture 80nm out without too much impact to performance as the thing that’s keeping us waiting.
