DCS: F-4E Phantom Phorever!

Agreed, actually. I think the Grippen would make more sense for Canada, compared to the Hornet/Super Hornet/F-35.

At least you are buying the right version of the Lightning , the one with the 25mm cannon. It’s going to be OK.

They may call her fat amy, and that perhaps is not wholly off the mark. They also call ‘em panthers, and that ain’t fer nothin’ neither. It’s a wtfawesome plane.

I got to finally see one up close, a couple of weeks ago, and it looks absolutely badass irl! Soo smooth compared to an F-16.

Those that call it “Fat Amy” have probably never even sat in one

You guys bought 52 of them. That’s formidable.

So did Australia at one point; as well as the beginnings of what today could be a world class space program… But alas

Having a sovereign military capability is one of the things I really admire about Sweeden. As with Canada, we have a similar size population, abundant resources, industrial base (albeit shrinking) and smart people. There isn’t any reason we couldn’t (and shouldn’t) do it ourselves as well.

I did not know that, neat! :slightly_smiling_face: I googled and got a bit of modern stuff like payloads sent up on various shuttle launches and other rockets, where can I read about the history of Australians in space? ETA: I mean the history of the Australian space program (proposals, attempts, what could have been type stuff), not just Aussies that have gone up on the shuttle or what have ye.

and whats the name for …

Almost half of US F-35s not airworthy (key.aero)

for ‘from A to B’ I am also more fan of the Gripen shapes. but for the STOVL there is no doubt that 35Bs are cool.

Mods feel free to move or remove this if it is hijacking this topic too much.

The history of the Australian space program is intimately tied to the history of the township of Woomera and the Woomera Prohibited Area, that is probably the best ‘starting point’ - Woomera, South Australia - Wikipedia

Woomera is fascinating. I have been there a few times and when you get out into the desert it doesn’t get more isolated than this:

There is an interesting Park (it needed some TLC last time I was there):

Live versions of the Blue Steel were tested at Maralinga and the Aircraft flew from Woomera:

Redstone/WRESAT recovered 1st Stage. (I know the guy that led the ‘expedition’ to recover it. That story and the story of Roger himself are worth pages):

Someone should reinvent that mascot for the DCS F4 launch… It’s long in the tooth by now.

Edit: no disrespect to the Sp00k.
