One of the few good reasons to have Twitter…
(or know someone who has it so they can repost it here  )

Sometimes you need to just go full chonk. The Phantom shall provide.

The year of the Phantom

EDIT: like- with all due respect, the Strike Eagle has “Rizz”, as the Youths are saying nowadays, but the Phantom has that… Historical Veterancy, heritage… that raw muscle-flexing in an age where technological superiority didn’t mean automatic safety… I mena, dogfighting Mig 17s an19s with unreliable missiles and NO GUN!?? Ooof, that’s playing in hard mode. Respect. Mad Respect.

I know what you mean … to show 13 year old me playing DI fighter pilot on my trusty zx spectrum with an Atari joystick (with one! Fire button) compared to now with vr and full hotas … my mind would have been blown

LOL, I know right?!

Somehow I always knew that one day we would get graphics “Just like in the intro!” for the actual game- I can’t believe we’re literally there- and people are still not happy.

I think we are very fortunate that We experienced The Big Block Graphics of the 80’s and 90’s…Now we really appreciate what we have…I’m not sure Kids today do appreciate where and how far we have come.
I used to try and play Falcon 4.0 on a very week average laptop….it was a absolute slideshow but somehow I was just happy that It Worked

Ah yes, and it required a lot imagination on the players’ part. I still remember watching the trailer (when the program was loading) and wishing the actual sim looked as good.

Ooops, I should’ve finished reading the entire thread first. Great minds think alike.

LOL, no worries…

I remember the struggle, growing up with the early personal computers…

At first I just wish my Commodore 64 was more powerful so I could have more frames per seconds
I was ok with the graphics…
Then came Chuck Yeager’s Air combat and I understood- I had fluidity, I wanted better graphics!

Then I got TFX and I desperately wanted better hardware! Joysticks! Throttles! Rudder pedals even!

When I finally had Falcon 4.0 I had Track IR, HOTAS and rudders… and I craved further realism!

Then I got DCS and I knew that VR and more POWER were the only thing missing…

Now I feel I need people to play along with…

I agree with all you said and would just like to add time… More time to play.
I need to retire.

That’s not a problem if you don’t grow up in the first place. :+1:

but you know guys that it isnt just about the graphical aesthetics, right !?

I mean DCS was never that pretty for me as after MT

Sorry but that ain’t the answer. Since retiring I’ve had less time to do the things I want to than I ever seemed to when I was working!

I hear other retirees say the same, but I will be the one to break the code and finally get more spare time!
