As we’re already off-topic, just wanted to chime in that while going through that airport about 10 years ago my main overriding memory was of passport control. They weren’t really checking them, as I was waving the Euro/UK one, but up on two large brown pedestals (like literally 8 feet up) were two literal blond goddesses. Like the two most beautiful women I had ever seen. All bright white blond hair, tans and border guard uniforms looking down at the ugly proles traipsing by. Welcome to Oslo!
Oh no! That would’ve been the clever choice. Instead they paid hideous amounts of money to a desiger to make furniture that looked like IKEA.
Those were the govt. employed Valkyries. The modern Valk decides who can enter the country, instead of who will die in battle.
Oh! The Blue Angels visited OSL in 94. There! On topic again…

F-86? MiG-15? F-5? Bf-109? Fw-190? P-51? Spitfire?
You pointy nosed fighter jocks are just upset that real men fly bombers and movie stars fly fighters. ![]()
Oh yeah, we need ground attack radar on the bug.
Lawn mowers
Gen I
Gen II
FC3 radar simulation with clicky-bits and pretensions.
Perhaps I should have been more specific. By “Fighter” I meant “>Gen III air superiority fighter with a deep sensor simulation”. This would include the F/A-18, F-14, F-4, F-16, and one hopes, the MiG-23 and JF-17. An aircraft I can use to control airspace and murderize bandits on the go.
No, that’s Ka-50, UH-1, Gazelle, and Mi-8. 109, et al are hedge trimmers.
So? You have guns and IR missiles. I’ll bet you want guided smartphone, too!
Next, you’ll tell me the MiG-21 is Gen II. Unbelievable.
You do want guided smartphone! I knew it!
Somewhat related, but do we know anything about how/if they’re implementing IRST or if it’s already done to an advanced level? While not applicable to the bug (at least, I don’t think?), it would most definitely apply to (some)F-4, F-14, and MiG-23.
To my knowledge every FC3 sensor uses a reductive process. It has access to the database the game stores every in-mission object in. From there it cross checks where it is looking vs the position of all objects and removes those that are not the correct type or outside of the scan volume. From there it applies a malice to the remaining objects (think a product of RCS, closure rate, prf, and distance), and any objects that pass get displayed. IRST would work a bit differently, but same general rules.
It’d be interesting to seem them try it, but by most accounts IRST of that entire generation utterly sucked. The F-4s was useless. The F-14A’s was useless. According to that USAF Aggressor dude who flew Fulcrums for the Germans, the MiG-29’s was useless, so I have to imagine the flogger’s is as well. The first one I heard that actually worked halfway decently was the F-14D’s in the 90s, and I believe they’ve gotten much better across the board since then.
Still the only “DCS” level aircraft that would have it would be the MiG-23. The F-4E never used them. The F-14As deleted them in the 70s, and we’ll be getting TCS instead.
Yeah, first gen IRST are all pretty terrible, they either have terribly short detection range, OR such a high false positive rate to pretty much be completely chaffed off as useless. The one we have in the flanker is severely overmodelled. If it was actually simulating how that gen of IRST works it should be giving off a ton of false positives and noise, getting worse if you are looking at clouds/water/hot fields/roads/anything that can really radiate or reflect heat.
Really the only way you could detect something reliably at a useful range is if they are tail on, in Afterburner, and looking up at them against a clear sky, cause then its distinct enough that all the clutter can get gained out.
Don’t let them fool you. They were using the video capability to watch Downton Abby.
Amateurs.
Should have been jacking in to the virtual world and dominating enemies. Or VR porn, that’s always cool.
Sorry for the Off Topic but… Wow. Who’s that? Cuteness Overload.
You got me; I suspect it’s from some Japanese game show.
Well…it’s not from Iron Chef…speaking of Iron, Ihear the FA-18 C mod does pretty good job dropping Iron Bombs (Phew! We almost went off topic.)
I was almost able to trace a source but… * trembling * it was heading towards a 4Chan thread so…
I had to stop.
I’m not strong enough.
Forget the girl. Is that a butt next to her head?

Of all the places I’d expect to see a TLA reference, this wasn’t high on the list.
