First how does my wingman get parked like that? I’m not seeing any yellow-gear on the deck.
Second, how does he rate engine covers (intakes too) and flags? I had everything off. Chocks set…forgetful plane captain?
You may also note that he didn’t drop a single bomb…I’m going to change his callsign from “Sponge” (as in he seems to absorb all the missiles he can) to “Magnet”, since Iron bombs stay attached to his plane.
I’m really, really looking forward to animated crew/ equipment on deck (the flight deck looks so strange without even at least Tilly being present), and actual tie-down chains instead of just chocks.
ATC needs some work there. Even IL2 would tell AI to wave off if another aircraft was in the pattern, unless said aircraft was severely damaged or similar emergency.
The tanker needs work too because I see the S-3B flying circles around the carrier til they run out of gas and plummet into the water.
So, to be fair. Everything pertaining to the AI, the carrier, and how the two interact is about 1000% better than it was at this point last year. They used to fly an extremely extended pattern where most would run out of gas and crash. If they got onto the deck, they could fit ~5/6 aircraft on the deck before getting confused about parking spaces and crashing into one another.
It’s also reasonable to point out this entire system is in flux. The ATC for carriers is due for a complete overhaul to support CASE III. It’s fine to point out it doesn’t work, but I think ED doesn’t see the point in patching that hole when they’re going rip out the wall in a couple of months. We’re in phase 1.5 of a 3 phase renovation. Same goes for the S-3, which is supposed to be due for an imminent rework.
Wags is a massive carrier wonk, I can’t imagine ED isn’t aware of these issues. I’m saving the ever shrinking toleration of hissy fits for the time after they’ve done the rework and if there are still issues.
Gotta agree, overall the system isn’t terrible and it does give a functioning experience. With the way the Bug currently is, it’s probably about 50% of the overall fun factor, even with the current glitches.
Long flights, starting from the boat, hitting the tanker, dropping some bombs, dodging a few fighters, and returning to trap is a very rewarding experience IMO.
The ONLY f-18s referred to as Rhino’s, are the Super Hornets (the real desgination. The Rhino is just a nickname. Like how the B-52 is referred to as BUFF, or Big Ugly Fat F**k )Every other model (except for the EA-18 which is designated “Growler”) they are ALL Hornets.
Nice to hear on the ATC, but the S-3B has default behavior – RTB after bingo, but will circle endlessly around the boat until it crashes. To be fair, it’s not just him in that particular mission, F-14s do the same. I’ve shelved that mission though, due to a lot of the challenges in getting the AI to behave the way I want them to.
Bro, you do know Hangar200 was a USN intel guy on a carrier, right? Just a typo on his part.
Pretty sure he knows the difference between a Super Bug, a Bug, Hornet, the old Rhino, and the new Rhino.
“Bro,” you know that I wouldn’t know, because I don’t know the guy at all. But I find it funny, given the point of my original comment, you use the nicknames like super-bug or Rhino.
Also the way he played out his comment, doesn’t imply there was any typo made.
I don’t think that @Franze meant anything by that comment other than to point out something that you might not have known. If you want to take offense at the ‘Bro’ comment, I guess that is your choice but we try to keep a positive, friendly community here.
I don’t mean to step in and defend people I’d like to head off a conversation where we try to nit-pick each other until we have to start cleaning the thread up. You made a point to correct an issue and someone pointed out that the person who wrote it probably just made a simple mistake. Lets move on.
I built a Super Bug for FP back in the day, after trying (and failing) to make a legacy Bug. I adopted the terminology from back then, accurate or not, from what people were calling it on the net. I like the sound of it, makes it seem like Fluffy the Terrible.
Back to the topic at hand: I did a quick check of the Rockeyes and its nice to finally have them functioning again. I did notice that Mk82 Snakeyes still must be dropped in retarded mode as selecting FF makes the CCIP behave in a very funky manner.
I was also fiddling with the AIM-7 and fixed radar (yes!) and was wondering if anyone had an overview of just how FLOOD works? I was under the impression that it automatically switched to FLOOD when launching an AIM-7 without a target, but it doesn’t seem to track anything. However, going to boresight mode will give the FLOOD message after acquiring a target and launching, so is FLOOD particular to the ACM modes?
