“DCS: F/A-18C Hornet Update
Matt and Nick are currently in Minsk and Moscow where work on the Hornet and ancillary units is progressing well.
Work has started on the management of aircraft on the CVN-74 carrier deck. Departing aircraft will appear in certain parking and elevators positions and will taxi on to the catapults. Recovering aircraft will taxi to free parking spaces. Subsequent aircraft will go to the elevator and de-spawn. On the deck it will be possible to place static objects (aircraft, equipment, loads). For this purpose we’ll provide some new possibilities in the mission editor. A little later, we will show you pictures and videos of this in action.”

And as Plane Guard. Since you know, in DCS now, none of the pilots can swim.

Simulating UNREPs could be fun - a really, really good crew can do a RAS while conducting flight ops.

Same jet about a year ago

(EDIT- I realized that - in my haste and with a lack of detail on my phone - these are not the same jets. The one above is 205 and the one I shot is 206. My mistake here.)

It will be interesting to see how they manage the deck parking on the carrier. I wonder if it will be possible to set up alternating launch and recovery cycles with re-spotting of parked aircraft (static, uncontrolled and landed AI) between the cycles.

Looking at those photos made me wonder if in general, do launch aircraft come up the aft elevators and recovered aircraft go down the forward elevators?

I might be mistaken, but I think the elevators are usually not directly involved with flight ops. I think they are mostly used between cycles to move aircraft from/to maintenance in the hangar.

@MBot is correct. Elevators aren’t usually operated during flight ops, as the maximum speed they can be run at is 12 or 15 knots, if memory serves (Hangar, Boomerang please feel free to correct me), and if possible you want to maintain a steady speed as much as long as practical when launching and recovering (keeps the pilots, the escorts, and the reactors happier). Weapons come up in separate elevators that are located inboard and don’t create the same kinds of restrictions as the aircraft elevators.
