DCS: F100 Super Sabre D

Oh and one more thing a out the engine cutting out:

That ONLY happens with negative G. Even when being super rough with the throttle, so far I’ve been able to “pick up it up where the engine left me” with every compressor stall: just move the throttle back to the position matching the current rpm, and it’ll recover , no restart needed

Sounds good to me… but she is certainly different to land …that left wing stall when I tried my usual landing technique is harsh

But the tiniest bunt over -1.0G and it spools down right away. Push the igniter and it will happily spool up again, but that thing is even more sensitive than the spitfire when it comes to pushing the nose.

If this were a real plane and I were supposed to fly it into harms way i’d be demolishing all those pretty red switch guard things. Dead weight and I need to be able to get at those quickly if push comes to shove.

Really on the fence about this one. Love the Phantom as a bomb truck and can’t decide if the price of 2-weeks’ groceries is justifiable for another bomb truck.

I haven’t flown against anything but AI but I am having an absolute blast balancing the hun on a knife edge in a dogfight. The jet feels alive. You can’t see it in the dogfight video I posted above but I was working the rudder hard to keep it under control. At low speed every roll you see is initiated with a healthy rudder kick and even at higher speed there’s considerable rudder input required to get the jet rolling at a quick pace. The last few scissors before the gun kill are basically all controlled with mostly rudder and pitch. And the rattling, the wind whistling over the canopy and the delayed kick when you engage the afterburner feel visceral. This is not just another mud mover.

I have yet to find a jet that I find truly hard to land in DCS. Challenging yes, but not hard. In fact I find setting up a perfect on-speed approach and landing in the Phantom much more challenging than in the Super Sabre. If you bring the speed down from about 190-200KIAS to about 165-170KIAS throughout the base turn and then simply cut throttle over the runway she settles nice and smoothly on the runway whereas in the Phantom you absolutely have to keep the power on all the way to touch down and if you mess that up a little bit you either slam into the concrete at terminal velocity or float down half the runway before you settle firmly onto the main landing gear :upside_down_face:

Yep same experience with the Phantom here. “Nice, I’m on-speed! Wait why is my VV showing -1500fpm???”

I spent the day Super Sabreing. I found the '19 a lot of fun as an opponent. Not impossible, not easy. But you do hustle getting after it. Victories are celebrated. I absolutly love this jet. Its pure, its analog, its RAW. The handling is great. The cannon… devastating, i got a Farmer w a quick burst head on.

I do hope they offer a “film” option in addition to the “vintage.” The film recorded would have looked as clean and color correct as modern day motion picture firm. It would still have grain and potentially have some exposure issues, but the current washed out color faded look, isn’t my fave. Still if that’s all I’ve got to complain about…

EDIT: In Afghanistan the colors look good, with just some grain and a bit of film scratchiness. I’ll have to see how it does on the other maps.

An uncivilised brute of an aircraft, it’s what I looked for in the MiG-21 and -19. Ace would have loved it to bits and sucked dearly at flying it.

I posted a bunch of guncam footage on the Mudspike Discord right now. I will do a compilation maybe in the coming days. Sooo good.

I just got a MiG-21… It was manic, it was brutal. Used the engine restart about 4 times. I kept saying, dont turn with him… DONT!. He finnally went too low and had to straighten out. An Aim 9 did the rest.
This will never be the most sophisticated aircraft in DCS, but it may be one of the MOST EXCITING to fly. Just WOW!
And also, we got us another Heatblur… Congrats to GD. This is out the park so far, you need a telescope to see it.

Yeah I couldn’t get a guns kill on the Fishbed, it’s just too fast. AIM-9J up the tail pipe works nicely though

I’m living vicariously through you guys right now with regard to the F-100D.. the day it dropped was day one of a work trip that will keep me on the road for at least another week.

I am glad to hear that the Hun is a great module though. I’m really looking forward to flying it!

It is spectacular and it is something worth looking forward to once you get home.

My Guy, dont worry. IL2 Korea drops 2 days after i start my vacay. Should i cancel? LoL, my son will kill me. Keep your head in the game @PaulRix , it will be waiting for you.

Yeah, myself I’d love it but: a) I don’t have the time to do justice to the work they put into it, b) I’m a handufl of modules behind [learing them well enough to do some damage and not crash[, and, c) I’d rather have new maps (knowing full well the hard drive space issues).

It would feel akin to charity, givning them my money. Not that that bothers me but, well, don’t make sense. Right now.

I’m looking forward to IL2 Korea as well.

As a consolation to not being able to fly the F-100, I did get to see one today at the Pearl Harbor Aircraft Museum.
