Great write up!
Ditto.
There isn’t a day go by where I visit here and either learn something or want to better myself.
If it isn’t inspirational people doing inspirational things, it is write-up’s like this.
For quite a long time, I didn’t even know about the F-100’s existence. Not the module, but the real jet. As a kid, I only knew the F-104 Starfighter of all the century series fighters, and the F-100 was the last one I learned about.
So I wasn’t really expecting to want or buy this module. Especially since we have some other planes coming from that era that I have a fascination with:
F-104, Fiat G.91
But yeah.. It is obvious Grinnelli Designs are making a module of exceptional quality, and this plane does tick a lot of boxes: powerful, difficult to handle, unreliable engine, simple systems, fast, historic fit for Cold War Germany.
It’s probably more fun to actually fly than the 104 too
another excuse to make shiney liveries …

Thank you for this! I was already excited for the Hun, now I’m even more excited!
Oh that’s 100%!
Spending some in the F-86 to get familiar with the A-4 sight and bombing again. Having a heck of a time getting the sight in bombing mode to cooperate. I’m at about 25% success with the sight giving me a drop indication or dropping in manual or automatic respectively. I’ve tried high angle dives, low angle dives, slow, fast, etc. Anyone have any suggestions, or profiles to fly that work better than 50%? The MIP is just normal manual bombing, good on that one. Might just be how it’s simulated in DCS, we’ll see how the F-100’s does.
Found the following while doing some research, interesting reading and had some excellent tips about using the A-4 in aerial combat (starts about page 109.
[OPERATIONAL SUITABILITY TEST OF THE F-86F AIRPLANE]
I can’t find any information on F-100 air to air kills. Now it is up to us to make sure it “gets some” in DCS.
Wiki:
" No, the North American F-100 Super Sabre was never officially credited with any air-to-air kills during its service life. While it was the first U.S. fighter capable of supersonic speed in level flight, it was primarily utilized for ground-attack and close air-support missions during the Vietnam War, and no MiG-17 was ever officially confirmed as destroyed by an F-100.
- The “Probable” Kill: On April 4, 1965, U.S. Air Force Capt. Donald L. Kilgus, flying an F-100, reportedly engaged and likely damaged a North Vietnamese MiG-17. While often cited by veterans, this engagement was classified by the USAF only as a “probable” victory, not an official kill.
- Role in Combat: Due to its lack of advanced radar and air-to-air weaponry, the F-100 was not considered an effective dogfighter and was quickly replaced by the F-4 Phantom and F-105 Thunderchief in air-superiority roles.
- Combat Record: F-100s flew over 360,000 combat missions in Southeast Asia, with 186 lost to anti-aircraft fire and none in air-to-air combat"
Sad, sad indeed.
As a german I am quite happy that many of the cold war jets never scored any kills.

Agree. So glad that we had Tom Clancy to fictionalize that scenario in Red Storm Rising, rather than fight it for real. Would have been ugly. Many of us would be fatherless as well. That is, if we survived.
Found these tonight. Their channel actually has a bunch of interesting things in the combat aviation vein.

I wasn’t particularly interested in the Hun since I have the Phantom for that Vietnam fix, but this…this is cool.
I hate to be Debby Downer but, my experience w DCS Trak files leaves a lot to be desired. Lets hope ED fixing trak files is part of this deal. I still preordered. Spent an hour yesterday wathing GD F-100 videos.
True, even if they have gotten better.
But these gun and strike camera movies are stored as AVI files, which makes me guess that they are not dependent on the TRK file.
The automatic gun cam videos are such a great idea on so many levels. There’s something in it for every user. And it’s a wet dream for marketing.
It needed an old tin can to pop the idea, brilliant ![]()

I bet there will be gun cams all over the place soon.
It will be interesting to see if the guncam videos work if you are flying in VR.
This is Outstanding News!!!
@PaulRix Lets hope So!
Interesting question…
I wonder how they record the video. If it’s some hidden view positions, VR may be a hurdle.
