La-7 could not be bad, because it was (La-5 and La-7) the fav fighters of the nr1 allied ace of ww2.
I think Stavka is referring to a similar plane, the Christen Eagle II:

exactly that one! yes its not exactly a Pitts Special, but a somekind copy of it
i care so much on that plane, that the first time i saw it i thought it was like a custom made Spitt Special Brand, like Ruf is to Porsche.
I wish they would allow some sort of armaments on the Yak-52, too.
yeah could be fun, i remember that exist on internet some pics of a yak52 in a museum with some rocket pods.
i imagine if it shoot a full instant salvo of all rockets the aircraft can reverse a bit in the air hahaha
The Eagle is similar but also quite different. Frank Christen neither wanted, nor had the rights to, copy the S-2. He wanted a more comfortable, wider fuselage for a much roomier cockpit. He changed the wheel-base to make ground-handling a terrifying. He made changes to the wing, stabilizer and rudder. Overall, it is heavier and slightly less snappy. But probably a better airplane for pilots who wanted more out of flying than pure aerobatics. Magnitude(?) probably chose the Eagle over the Pitts because it is experimental and variations in handling can be forgiven by Aviat, the owner of the rights to both machines. For the record, the DCS Eagle flies nothing like the real thing. X-Plane and MSFS also fail at the similar Pitts. Not sure why.
Thanks, thats sad, because if that Eagle on DCS flight well i could buy it for some fun flights.
And about the Spitts on Aerofly FS4? for what i read aside of other crazy and unbelievable lacks of that flight sim, the physics are well done there and in some aspects sometimes better than in other sims.
The big problem is that in general way, the flight sims worried much only in the 99,999% of the flight, in the sustained flight, thats normal, when the aircraft goes to aerobatic flight it goes to non sustained and out of normal envelope, and there requires a different approach in simulation, diferent physics model etc and sad is where all flight sims start to fail. I think the 2 best, still not perfect, sims for aerobatics are the il2 great battles and aerofly fs, they did some special care in this department.
Thanks again for the details about the diferences on spitts and eagle ![]()
I need to find more information on CSLA use of the La-7 and how long they were in inventory. Some Cold War piston fighter work would be fun.
Because of the wodden construction and general weather in the Soviet Union, they probably did not last long. The La-9/11 are more like Korean War fighters. For La-7 Im thinking end of WW2 against Germany and the Japanese in Asia mainland. With One eye closed i pretend its a La-9⦠La-9 was all metal so A LOT of imagination.
Very true, the latest date I can find in CSLA service is 1950 (which is impressive), so Iām wondering if they had any in storage for very long that they could bring out for a peacekeeping operation ala Sweden with its Tunnans in the Congo.
Czechs used them till 1950. Remember the pace at witch aviation was moving in the 40s. Once the constraints of war were over, the Soviets moved on to make all metal Lavotchkins. I imagine at that time the La-7s were abandoned. They really were just made of wood with little in the way of instrumentation. They were not meant to last and did not take punishment well. By the end of hostilities, everyone was obsessed with Jets too. The La-9 was all metal, had a laminar flow wing, 4 cannon and better range. It was supplied to North Korea.
