You are meant to leave it running but the latest version (4.0 got released today) allows you to set a ‘mission time’ (e.g. 30 mins) and the game will generate an ATO that fits for that.
For the Mission Editor, no you don’t need that anymore and can run it direct from Missions.
Hi,
Are there any premade Liberation campaigns to download, and if so, where? I’d like a theater laid out with battalions, regiments, etc. that I can just fire up, pick a jet/chopper and get down to business. I’m trying to decide if now is the time to finally get back into DCS while the sale is going on. A dynamic campaign has been what I have been waiting for.
Yes, in fact that’s how Liberation is usually played and they come with the client download. Here’s the latest release (4.0) campaigns list you get to choose from when you hit ‘New Game’ and start a new campaign:
You can pick one based on what maps you own, plus how good your server performance is (even if you play single player locally). Some of the ‘Full Map’ ones are great, but you do need a separate server ideally for those.
EDIT: It seems the desired length of a mission was introduced in v3.0
[Flight Planner] Desired mission length is now configurable (defaults to 60 minutes). A BARCAP will be planned every 30 minutes. Other packages will simply have their takeoffs spread out or compressed such that the last flight will take off around the mission end time.
So it seems that the logic is that the entire mission duration is longer than the desired mission length setting since the last flight takes off around the mission end time. Waiting for it to do its work before quitting the mission is probably a good idea.
If I turn everything (graphics) down I can play smoothly (VR) on what appears to be the smallest campaigns on the PG (this map performs best for me). But only between the home drome and the FLOT. Get over/near either of those and it’s too choppy (turned some things off in Liberation but will try to turn more off).
However, what really struck me is:
Noteworthy Items
The Liberation dev’s have done a really good job with this. Commendable for sure.
DCS is a complex beast, operationally speaking; I do a lot of training missions (I can force it to run smooth enough under these conditions) with various A2G things that go BOOM. But man, when the fit-hit-the-shan I was all thumbs, and my brain went a little soft…
Un-Noteworthy
Related to 1 above: DCS just ain’t ready for all this quite yet. Still fun but I suspect even with the latest, greatest, gear I’m going to be turning stuff off to keep it smooth enough over the field/FLOT/Target.
Related to 2 above: Bunch of Tomcats jumped me and Dilbert shortly after the wheels stopped spinning. It’s tuff to tell the Good Cats from the Bad Cats (esp at 20-25 FPS, during BFM, with clouds). I did manage to ‘gun’ both of them though.
Problem was - one of them was ours…Doh! I thought that first one didn’t seem to be trying as hard as the second one? In my defense: they were both together when I spotted them, though their formation-keeping was a bit…erratic (should’ve been my first clue I guess)
And those two HARMS I ‘mad dogged’, well, lets just say they took the keys away from me when I landed.
It was so confusing out there! LOVED IT.
AI still not good.
Me: “OVERLORD, declare [dang it]”.
OVERLORD: “Pop up group 050/035/040/065 for 100/75/80/55”.
Me: That’s NOT helpful.
[Two minutes after my request, and as my compatriot was going down in flames from my guns]
OVERLORD: “Contact is friendly”.
Thanks.
Just flew a TARCAP mission in which two AI MiG-15s were supposed to drop bombs on the targets along a front… while they flew their route nicely, they did not drop the bombs.
For in-mission stuff, like how well the AI does then it’ll be a DCS bug/issue. Sometimes the mission planning parts can try to work around things so it’s worth asking in their Discord here - https://discord.gg/bKrtrkJ or checking the issues list here - Issues · dcs-liberation/dcs_liberation · GitHub
Okay I’m really enjoying Liberation–I’m so glad this exists! Up to now I haven’t spent anything on DCS since the original A-10 release, but that changed when I bought some theaters and jets and have been flying the AV-8B in a campaign. Tonight I managed to vertical land and on a small carrier, sort of… my nose careening into the conning tower at 10 mph counts as successful, right?
I noticed a new DCS update came out which adds Marianas. Since I haven’t touched DCS in years, does Liberation need to be updated every time DCS updates? How does this work?
did you guys notice a folder in the liberation download called “faker”? In it there are folders referencing SSN, phone number, credit cards, etc. Not sure what this is or if it is a joke. Also, its been a while, but I’m back.
This library is commonly used in software testing: you can generate fake data like names, email addresses etc., which can be used as an input to test cases.
