Makes sense, the attachment point is closer to you this way, thus less torque.
Just like you carry heavy stuff close to your body.
The French make them the same way:

But it sucks donkey do
Oh! Did you try it? I tried to ask closed beta access but I played so little on the last 8 months, even I wouldn’t have given it to me.
No, but I know a few people who have.
OMFG ARE WE SERIOUS!
My (other) BABY!
One of the only three helicopters I would feel confident cold start in real life! ![]()
Can someone please check if @Freak is still breathing?

@EightBall It looks incredible!!
What does it take to make it flyable? If you open a Kickstarter, I’ll draw my credit card. Or just send me your IBAN
Unfortunately the model I bought seems to have been ripped from FSX, it’s an old Virtavia model so the project is pretty much dead at this point.
I do have a crappy flyable version which is based on the UH-60 mod. I can share it privately with those interested but it’s really rough around the edges
Below is the cockpit (from a 53E) it has the basic flight instruments but as you can see the UH-60 digital instruments are still visible
Aw that’s a shame. Hope you didn’t spend too much time on it before finding that out. It looks pretty good but I have no idea how much effort it is for someone with your skills and experience.
(I do still want it)
Darn, breaks my heart… I really wanted this for DCS. I can thread a needle with it.
Sad Day Indeed. Hope @EightBall realize how much you mean to this community. Hang Tough, Somedays you get the Bear, and somedays the Bear get you..
Lately went on a route down to get a flyable version of the CH-46D going. So far it doesn’t fly, though a short hop is working.
The EFM is basically that of nibbylot’s sample EFM for the AH-6J, so a single rotor system for now, not a tandem rotor setup. I’ve tried to use cursor AI in vibe coding mode to convert the original code to a tandem rotor setup. The result was … discouraging. Now I’m still using cursor AI, as my C++ skills and foremost Flight Model skills are pretty laughable, but with much smaller steps.
Currently development happens in this branch on github: GitHub - tspindler-cms/Helicopter-EFM-Demo-CH46 at ch46d-slow · GitHub
Not sure if this will ever be in a releasable state though. Even if so, it’s probably a year off.
Aww man that sucks. Are there any other models available? I’m sure I’m not the only one who be willing to help move things along if there are options.
Awesome! I’d love to have a chance to take the Phrog up for a spin.
As I kind of expected there is next to no progress with the flyable CH-46D … it’s just a huge bite to take and too much to chew on for me.
Meantime we then sourced some civilian Nam vessels and rigged them:
Unfortunately they washed over by the waves on the ocean, so the Sampans can only go on lakes and rivers…
Those look great!
Oops, sorry for the late reply I somehow missed your post there.
There are some but they are quite pricey and really not that great

Also, given the current geopolitical context, I want to step away from “real” assets and dedicate my time to a sci-fi postapo project that’s been in the back of my mind for quite some time now.
Can’t wait to have people asking me again if I know what the C in DCS stands for ![]()
That looks fun Eightball!
