I think the terminology is causing confusion. What I call the “standard” overhead (probably wrong) is the usual echelon formation, 1500ft 3~3.5G break at 350kts that’s done in safe(r) areas to get jets down efficiently.
Finally found Mover’s demo. Looks like 4,000ft, 400kts, “tac initial, high TRP” whatever that means. Looks like not as much G either.
It was definitely a good time. I think that we learned a lot about the mission, how to use teamwork, and how the bad guys react. The airspace between treetop level and say 4000 AGL can be pretty deadly in places, especially near the Alpha Hill. Charlie has something large bore there, like a 57 or 85. Next time we get a group together, I think that we should send a couple of Phantoms or Skyhawks there with racks of Mk82s to level the area early on. That will allow the helos and turboprops to operate without fear of sniping. The Loaches do pretty well NOE.
Or someone needs to get current on the AC-130. Problem solved
I got shredded pretty badly when trying to lob slicks on those targets from further out using DT. I doubt you will survive overflying the target with Rockeyes.
So, I took a look at the AAA in the mission editor. There are three Ks-19 100mm guns spread around, paired up with three Zu-23s near them, all with the skill set to random. I didn’t alter anything, but considering setting the skill level to rookie, since they have a ruthless reputation, even at the lowest level.
I hate to mess with what they’ve created and maybe with time we’ll learn the map so well that it won’t be an issue. But I swear those things will snipe you at low level, even when a couple of miles away, like working the ridge on the SW side of the island.
I still love the MiG-19, it’s probably one of my favorites just to fly around the patch with. It’s so sporty, but so anachronistic. It’s the same charm you get with a classic muscle car.
Could a decent Altima or Camry beat your '71 Corvette in the 0-60 game? Probably. But, what’s more fun to drive?
If you already own the MiG-19, now might be the time to give it a spin (dreadful news in the Razbam/ED dispute today with all Razbam modules being pulled from sale)
