Since I publicly embarrassed myself on the forums about not knowing how to select/enter Bx points in the Viggen, I had to finally fly and test these beautifully complex little missiles out.
I used the F10 map to get waypoints of the target, a carrier at the center of a battlegroup, and set a dogleg waypoint up so we could attack from the south and have the Rb15s take a (slight) right turn into the battlegroup, right through a gaping hole in the screen cover. I entered the waypoints manually and was able to talk @Tyco through the process to load the same flight plan into his Rb15s.
The big CV was easy to spot from the smaller escorts.
We got confused when we set ANF mode, as the waypoint displayed on the radar screen changed from BX6 to BX8 although the selected waypoint was still showing as BX6. Misreading the HUD cues, we thought we might have overrun the descent point (we were still 20+ KM from it) and launched our Rb15s. Outside of launch parameters, the Rb15s ignored the flight plan and dropped to the deck and engaged the targets closest to their bearing line – @Tyco’s took on one escort, my missiles took on another. My missiles didn’t score a kill, but @Tyco’s Rezky was sent to her watery grave.
I want to do some more exploring, with launch parameter ranges to the decent point, testing the TAKT data inputs, etc., but this aircraft continues to be a fun little jet, even with all the little bork borks.
@EinsteinEP hitting his target but not killing it. @Tyco did better on the right side of the fleet formation. A nearby vessel is offering CWIS support;
I hadn’t thought of that. You guys let me know if you think that I should pull the screens. I assumed that it was like the Vipers that the V Thunderbirds fly.
