DCS Super Carrier, or how Will learned to love skittles of all the wrong colours

There is no new release date as of yet. Kate said that they were unsatisfied with the current OB and it’s unlikely the carrier will be released in April.

If things go as usual, there will be an OB update next Wednesday, they are probably going to look at how that turns out and then give it the go/no go a bit later.

thanks @sobek, @Franze - so that explains why there are 65 pages of responses from the thread she started about three days ago!

Definitely Two More Weeks.

A few new shots have surfaced

Those two F-18s look really big in that shot.

Most of us have been ED/DCS followers for 20 years or more. If my tea leaf reading skills have any value my guess is that it will be late May or later. When I see “definitely not April” I hear “definitely not Spring”.

Scale looks right to what I remember, though that style of engine exhaust cover I don’t remember…

Yeah, the exhausts should be at shoulder height.
This is a superbug, but still…

Maybe the DCS Skittle is offset, looking at the jet further down the line? Hard to tell.

Nose strut extension could also play a part. On most business jets it can vary quite a bit and makes a large difference in tail height.

Sure, but that guy looks small either way. Or, it’s the perspective.

Oh I see what’s happening. The crew in the DCS shot are actually between the two bugs. When I commented it looked as if they were behind the plane in the foreground.

I guess that’s what’s going on. The fact that one guy is looking up makes you think he’s looking at the closest jet, but he’s a bot and isn’t looking at anyhing…

Pretty sure that’s the case. He is standing some meters behind that Hornet.

Those are definitely little Skittles.

Yeah, I was looking at them compared to the height of the horizontal stab of the hornet in the background, and the FFE locker all the way to the right of the frame.

The three deck crew look to be standing between the two jets, and DCS’s FOV system when zooming does a lot of weird stuff with forced perspective, like having a telephoto lens.

To be fair the size of the carrier itself is incorrect so I wouldn’t be surprised if the scale was a little odd.

Is it? I didn’t know. By how much?

It’s not like a giant error, but it is smaller than it’s supposed to be. Some guy did a dissertation on it a while back, really interesting. But basically because it’s off, it throws off the geometry on a lot of stuff.

The regular DCS Stennis, or the Super Carrier module?

One in the same?

Here’s the video I was talking about.
