DCS Super Carrier, or how Will learned to love skittles of all the wrong colours

< insert whiny expert voice >

…but actually carriers almost never operate with the hangar bay doors closed like that underway…

I think they accidentally threw the whole s’more in there, honestly.

Is there a smoking lamp on this module?

I mean, it’s obviously lit on the Kuznetsov.

For the Nimitz-class, if it’s anything like Reagan back in my day, you’re possibly looking at smoking sponsons starboard side aft, just ahead of the RHIB derrick, and just aft of the aft shore power riser, or portside forward by the other RHIB derrick. I’ll try and find pics of where Im talking about.

on the Essex it was right by the ramp to go down into the well deck. I’m not a smoker, but dudes would be pissed when the 1MC came on and said the secure the smoking lamp

Bundling the Kuz with the Nimitz DLC when the Kuz was touted as a free visual upgrade three years ago is a little meh.

Correction, two years ago? For a while the Kuz was planned as a non-DLC visual update, then suddenly postponed.

Hey, how about we all see what happens before taking up pitchforks and torches. For all we know, Kuznetsov and Burke come free with 2.5.6

The Kuz and Burke really should be free. No one is going to buy the carrier pack just for those two, and they be useless for multiplayer if the pack is required.

I think it’s a very Cool and Nice gesture to offer a discount on The Super Carrier for current Hornet Drivers

The discount will not stack with the pre-order bonus. I’m not complaining, but I also don’t want anyone to be disappointed when final pricing is announced.

From the ED newsletter:

As with the new Nimitz-class aircraft carrier model for Supercarrier, the Kuznetsov and Arleigh Burke will be visible to all in multiplayer, regardless if you own the Supercarrier module.

Preorder discount available to everyone, Hornet owners only get a discount after preorder is over.

“Discounts dont stack, so the Hornet Owner Discount will come after release. Will not be available during pre-order/Early Access.”

But in order to place them in a mission, you will need to own the module. There seems to be a lot of confusion thus far.

Updated Kuznetsov not available to those who don’t buy the Supercarrier module, same for Arleigh Burke. Placement in SP not possible without owning the module, but will show in multiplayer without needing to own it.

I’m thinking I’ll pass over the Supercarrier module now and hope that the old carriers still work for the next few years.

For reference, the original Kuznetsov update was announced in '16:

That’s nice.
I have still to understand the extent of the Supercarriers features available to non-owners.
Like… Yep I see it so I can target it and probably shoot it.
That said, if I’m a damaged A6 closing to the Carrier group and my wife still is mad at me for buying the Intruder so I had to temporarily skip the 'Carriers… Could I at least land my bird?
Will I pass through it like a ghost?
Will my wife ever talk to me again?

Land yes, stop no. You won’t be able to catch a wire or use the cat with the supercarrier in multiplayer. You won’t see it at all in singleplayer if you don’t own it. This is preliminary info so it might also change to “float right through it” because otherwise some aircraft like the AV-8 and helicopters would be able to use it if they could just land on it. Maybe not interact with it, but they could potentially just be able to land on it.

Yeah… Sounds like a lot of extra developer effort just to administrate all of this.

And about that discount.
From the newsletter:

DCS: Supercarrier will be available for pre-order on January 17th with a 30% discount and will deliver as an Open Beta by the end of Q1 2020. Owners of DCS: F/A-18C will receive a discount when purchasing DCS: Supercarrier.

I didn’t read any if’s or but’s into that…
But, ok. :man_shrugging:

I’ll be getting the Supercarrier because I want the animated deck crew. The rest is just additional value. I know that they say that the new carriers and the Burke will be viewable on multiplayer servers … but I don’t know what that means with respect to usage. Maybe the Burke will be drive-able (not that it is a feature I am looking) but I curious as to how ‘usable’ the new carriers will be for landing/taking off. I assume that the wires and catapults will not work if you don’t have the module (and the animated parts will not be visible or able to be interacted with)

@NineLine clarified on Reddit (Hoggit) that the discounts would not stack but the F/A-18C discount would be available when the Supercarrier pack is not on sale.

I think that the Kuznetsov being added does increase the value you get for purchasing the Supercarrier addon but I am not sure what the Burke gets you, really. Time will tell.

Hmm, a cynical man may say that, minus a few module releases, the 2016 and 2020 plans are eerily similar. . .
