I’ll take a look at my SteamVR and DCS settings and post them up…
Yeah, it’s a weird one for sure. I tend to do the ‘Free Flight - Hornet - Syria’ for 2 minutes, just to load it up a bit, and then switch to MP for either the Syria SAR MP or the Frog server - either of those I can’t make it longer than about 15 minutes without the steamvr crash. While waiting I F7 and F10 for something to do.
I tried SteamVR at lower resolutions, and it didn’t help so I just put it back up. For us to run the same you’d need to put it to 2696 x 2640 (not sure what that is on a G2 Reverb but the SteamVR Settings dialog should say. DCS PD 1.0 as well.
On the ED forums there’s about 20 or so people with the same thing, but it is either been scooped up in 2.7 fixes or they are still in the ‘can’t reproduce’ area. They did have a ED Tester (Pikey) get it as well, so hopefully he could have passed on some info to the devs.
The weird thing is is that it is running so well before it happens. Nice and clear, good performance, not growing in memory etc. It makes anything complicated no fun in DCS though, as you just get going and then get booted out.
Lemme try that…and DCS PD 1.0…
Hmm…my SteamVR only moves in 2% increments so:
SteamVR 74% = 2712 x 2656
SteamVR 72% = 2676 x 2616
So 74% might be as close as I can get…
I have all Developer settings set to OFF in SteamVR too…
Yep me too.
An interesting side note is that it seems to be all sorts of graphics cards and systems (e.g. Oculus Link for Quest etc). I was thinking it was vanilla 2080 specific, but I see people with 3070’s etc also getting it.
SOrry for the silly question… is the time of crash constant?
Like more or less precisely 10 minutes?
For this one there are definitely no silly questions!
No, not exactly, sometimes 8 mins, sometimes 13 mins - I think my record was about 20 minutes on Syria. I too was thinking perhaps it’s a virus checker or some sort of monitoring thing that is going on to trigger it, but after recording 10+ crashes (!) I couldn’t see a pattern. I’ve played Alyx and Elite for 4 hours plus in VR and it’s never crashed.
If I do a free flight on Caucuses with no units and single player etc I can stretch it to an hour. If I do something like ‘Helicopter Operations’ with the Huey and the ‘hoist this box in the snow’ task then I can make it about 15 minutes.
OK then my idea is less likely…
I encountered a problem quite similar, where a software would crash very regularly and the cause was the HDD (or SSD) unto which it was installed was set to power saving and deactivated thus failing.
But I don’t think this is the case.
I’ve got DCS and Windows on a NVMe M.2 stick. I do have Steam on an SSD. I could try moving it.
I’m getting close to repaving Windows. I have lots of non-DCS on here, so it’s pure pain.
I can imagine…
My plan longer term is to slip £20 in an envelope for @bignewy with a note saying ‘I was just joking about all that early access stuff, it was just a gag!’ and see if that’ll get me taken off the account crash list
Wow, uninstalling Steam free’d a ton of disk. A lot of very old games just flashed by in the uninstaller…
Well, sorry to report I managed over an hour with no issues on that SFrog server (Syria). Managed to die a couple times, put some bombs “near” some targets (LOL)…shot down a MiG-29 and got shot down by same. Maybe I should drive trucks in Combined Arms.
Did you tweak anything in the NVidia control panel that I can compare to mine maybe?
In my PC settings I have Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling OFF, Variable refresh rate OFF, and Focus Assist OFF (can’t stand to get too many notifications right as I’m about to grab that sweet, sweet, three wire…cough…) Storage Sense is OFF…
X-Box Game Mode OFF and Game Bar OFF too…
Hey fearless, aren’t you running a really old Nvidia driver? risks planting foot solidly in mouth due to not reading the last 20 posts
