Departing San Diego...

I’m seeing a lot of buildings missing or looking wrong, just from Beach’s screens.

The MisterX6 version.

Looks like they’re parked at the Guest Berth- there’s no shore power facilities there, so carriers will only pull in and park there when they’re usually stopping down from Washington to pick up or drop off their air wing. One of the two carriers based there full time will park at the berth that just off the port beam of the carrier pictured above (that was our parking space when I was there), and the other will park behind that around the corner. And I definitely remember seeing smaller ships parked ahead of where that carrier is- research vessels, transport ships, a random tug every now and again, and once a Mexican Navy patrol boat.

Do either of these sceneries also extend to NAS North Island, or any of the other outlying fields around the area, such as Montgomery, Brown, or Gillespie?

Well, the scenery itself might not - I’d be hard pressed to tell where the add-on software ends and my ortho starts. I have the same carrier images as the Mister X version, so they must share the surrounding ortho to a point…

We’ve come so far in flightsimulators… So very far…

Yeah, what @BeachAV8R said. There is a need for a good Coronado / North Island scenery.

I was attempting to trap and after 3 bolters, decided to get a screen of my approach. At a certain angle/zoom level, the hanger deck was revealed. BTW, I don’t think that these static carriers have functioning arresting cables.

Great Scenery.

FYI in the early 2000’s I was the XO of a Navy Command called Fleet Intelligence Training Center, Pacific - FITCPAC - located right next to the airport and captured in the scenery!

Neat. One of my two runs when I’m there is right past that. Also curious how well they modeled Balboa Park. That whole area is just heaven to me. I’d move there in a heartbeat! I wouldn’t even ask the family. They’d wake up in the morning to find their bags already packed and the cat stuffed in a cage. I’d strap her to the roof of the car Romney-style!

I’d imagine property and houses in San Diego are $$$$…

I lived there off and on for about 6 years (North County SD). Really miss it as well. Riding my motorcycle up and down the 5 and PCH was excellent.

Well Bergen County, NJ is no cakewalk!

Running along the boardwalk along Harbor Drive? When I lived in Little Italy (Union and Beech), that was my typical daily route. Still liked running on the boardwalk in Mission Bay better when I lived in Crown Point/ Pacific Beach.

I was also wondering about Balboa Park- that’s got to be the most beautiful urban park I’ve spent time in. I also miss San Diego, and I’ve toyed with the idea of moving back somewhere down the line- honestly, my career could take me back there in a few years…

Within the city, it’s insane. Especially if you want to be close to anything. Your house would go well into the seven figures in most areas, not even including the land it’s sitting on.

We moved to North SD County almost 3 years ago, and I love it. I have a long commute, but I feel like we live in paradise. And we love heading down to the city and Coronado Island.

Fortunately for us, we were coming from the Bay Area and housing was actually cheaper here…

I have ORBX KSAN, but if I ever get into XP11, I’ll check this out.

And if anyone of you professional flyers ever come into KCRQ, let me know.

Here are some screens for you guys. Of course the ortho photo overlays look better from altitude. I have a friend who has a house in a neighborhood on the NW side of the park, so I’ve run there a few times as well. Well, more like waddled.

CRQ is a fairly frequent destination for me, so I’ll have to give you a holler next time I’m there for a few days. :beers:

Let’s see… I’m guessing that’s the 163 as the main road in the first two shots, and the round building there in Balboa Park is the Air and Space Museum (they’ve got a Convair Sea Dart out front!). Which means that the athletic field and track in the background there is probably San Diego High School. Third shot is looking across Florida Street and the Balboa Naval Hospital?

Also, I think you landed in the dog park. Just saying. Anyway, great shots, and thanks now for making me homesick.

Heresy!

I lived there for five years. In fact I lived in a “gated community” with great security, swimming pool, awesome gym, golf course and a nice Friday happy hour at the club…OK, I lived on MCAS Miramar…but I didn’t pay a cent in rent. :sunglasses:
