I went with Foxx Mounts which had a similar build quality but was cheaper than Monster Tech.
Meza mounts seem to be the next best alternative because the design is similar to Monster and Foxx for a fraction of the cost. Sadly, I can’t vouch for the build quality because I’ve never used them but have seen them mentioned in discussions. The mounts are available on Amazon for around $130 for a set.
well I bought a set of J-Peins for 40 bucks. I am trying to mount my Apache TEDAC to something and this looked perfect. if I can get it too work with my cougar I will by one more for afull set…
I thought about going for a desk mount myself, but realized the problem…my desk is cheap.
It’s at least 10 years old and made from particle board so if I attach anything to it which can exert any type of force, the desktop might splinter. It was like $200 for the desk new when I got it.
I decided to buy chair mounts instead from MTSIM with removable arms.
However, I will add the mounts cost more than my desk and my $250 chair combined! On the plus side, they’re so well made when I replace the chair and desk I will be able to keep using them.
I’ve been thinking about chair mounts or adding a rail system to my desk because I want to add a dual throttle and collective to my setup. I may go with a small form factor sim rig. Either way, I have ideas but all that will be after I do my next full build in a year or two.
Back when I first got the Cougar I made my own chair mounts. The chair had arms that held the backrest on, so it was a simple deal to cut plywood frames that sat between the arms and the base and back, then had some reinforcement up front to hold the controller. Couple of cheap small cargo straps to hold the controllers on. Job done!
And I think it was about $20 worth of materials too…
Yes I could build something but for the cost of these mounts basically it is almost cheaper and plus you get a more finished look in the process…
I think the JPeins upgraded version I bought should work… if not I will make it work… Plus I am going to try and mount my Apache TEDAC to one and put it in the center that was I can remove it when not flying as it has a quick connect to the desk…
still in progress as I was having some teething issues but it is all sorted now. I have aface plate but it was off in thisshot almost ready to finalize the tedac… in vr this is awesome…
Well I had a small fatality and I broke the usb plug off the adruino board and it is now kaput. I had just ordered a replacement board and going to fix it myself as shipping both ways would be 200usd… so no worries I broke it but not sure how or when but I am pretty sure it was my fault either way I am going to do a makover.
afterI dr it up should be good for the forseeable future… still it is an really cool piece to have for the apache gunner position…
Going to be sending this to a buddy who can solder. I could send the adruino piece to the guy in spain but I guess it is going to be cheaper to send it to my friend in thestates…
Bad thing is he got covid and is sick so he probally will not get to it for like 10 ormore days. I have yet to send it need to get some funds and off it goes. I should have asked him to do 2 of the 3 I bought but 1 will work…
I then need to contact the guy in Spain to get the firmware or program for the Adruino board he made up for the TEDAC… that might take some time with thetime difference… they are 6 hours ahead of EST…
I can start to modify the TEDAC with the panel plate I bought which needs me to drill a 23mm hole in the TEDAC. that way I can connect that to the board and plug into the panel plate instead of the adruino board… which should save wear and tear…
Plus with it being a USB-C it is a bit stronger a connection then the Micro usb was… this is the panel adapter I bought:
I had found a hole saw and cut 2 holes as 1 was 2 small and I did not want too spend all night filing.
It was a little bigger then what they said to use, it stated to use a 23mm hole saw I only had a 25mm so I went with that and it worked…
I am waiting for the guy who made the TEDAC to send me another adruino board and I can reassemble it but this time use the connector I used as I will probally be plugging/unplugging it when I take it off my desk so not to put the wear on the Adruino connector.
I had to buy another cable as the ones I bought had the wron other end it was just a usb-a trype. I needed both to be a USB-C type. and the new cable has an angled end I can use inside the case as it will be a tight fit but the cable is only 6" long…
I aquired a WinWing MFD and heard the stock desk mounts are not too good, is this true. and if so what is a good replacement desk mount so I can mount the 1 mfd I have to my desk for now…
Start cheap and see if you can make it work. You can always upgrade to the pricier one later if you need it, but maybe the cheap one will be adequate for you.
Yes, the winwing mount should be fine unless it can not hold tight to the desk or something… but I will not be moving it once I mount it off to the left side of my desk…
