Dick Rutan has departed on his last flight…

Oh man! That guy was such a hero! One winglet grinds off so what does he do? He offloads the other! The flight was such a great accomplishment for civilian experimental aviation. And that it was done by two brothers (and Jeana) was just too perfect. He was my generation’s Lindbergh.

I read the book several times in my youth and even built a scale-ish model of Voyager, in balsa wood.

I remember when Voyager was hanging in ASM in DC, the ground off wingtip was easily noticeable.
Not sure if it’s still there or they’ve moved it elsewhere.

Back in Vietnam, Dick Rutan was an F100 special activities pilot flying 325 missions.
