@Mudcat - not sure what’s happened, but have just jumped in to complete the rally and its gone straight to stage 10. I was expecting to start from stage 9, but didn’t get the option to run it. Its very odd as I exited after completing stage 8 yesterday and all appeared to be normal.
I ran the stage 10, but it looks like I’ve been given a default time for stage 9.
I unfortunately had that happen to me once as well. Wish I knew what happens there.
The thing with degradation is they are talking about Custom Events and Single Player, Clubs don’t fall into either category. The options I get are per stage and it’s a simple none, min, med, high. It’s most likely locked to optimal in the settings they are talking about since while we only have a few members there are clubs that have several thousand participants. Imagine being able to switch it to authentic and being car number 8552 to run the stage
The Club set up is over-simplified, Assists allow on/off, forced cockpit view on/off, Unexpected moments on/off (which doesn’t seem to actually do anything in clubs unless they count the animals) and Hardcore Damage on/off.
That’s it for what you get to choose for settings. Of course it would be nice to have even a tad more control. Would anyone really be bothered by someone using automatic transmission? Probably not, but you can’t allow that without turning on every single “assist” in the game… sigh…
I know that I’m hanging back in P3, but I’ve really liked Poland so far. The rutted roads are a challenge and I wish that there was a bit more tarmac. But otherwise it’s been a lot of fun. Hats off to @Roo and @keets. I’m driving what feels like a pretty quick pace and for the most part, error free. But loosing 10-20 seconds per stage means that the two chaps in front of me must be going flat out.
I’m definitely pushing pretty hard. If I’m driving normally (not trying to recover from a mistake), I’ll usually drive at eight or nine tenths, otherwise I tend to get bored. If I am trying to claw back from a mistake (like most of the second half of Poland or Australia), I’ll try and go nine or ten tenths, but that usually just ends up with me making more mistakes a loosing more time.
I think the Audi is also a bit more, “husky,” than the others in the class. The engine is a monster, but the extra weight means it can get away from you more easily, and the increased width makes it harder to thread the needle in places.
Oh no! I think in this case you should run that stage as a time-trial or individual event and post your time here. Looking at your other stages, unless some other tragic thing happens you’ve got me. I think without that final 1:00 minute penalty it would have been right down to the wire (within a few seconds), but alas.
I must say, you’re really giving me a run for my money lately. In both Australia and Poland your speed has forced me into making mistakes, giving you the wins. Even with the other rallies I think it’s more a case of the reverse (you making more mistakes than I) than a pace advantage. I’m really enjoying it and hope we can continue the friendly rivalry for a long time to come.
Oh, I definitely want. Any thoughts on the class yet? The 2000cc were great fun in the USA and I’d love to run them again. For R5s I’d also like a chance to get past Stage 2… Of course, if you want to do something we haven’t run before I’m perfectly happy with that too.
It’s an option, group B’s and up to 2000cc were the two full series I was going to run, so if we want to save them for that we can or so can do it as another preview-ish or throw in something completely different.
How about the NR4s or Group As? I’d like to stick to an AWD class since I’ve gotten used to them, and the RWD (and FWD to an extent) would be a bit of a shock. If you take out the Group Bs, 2000cc, and R5s, you’re left with the Group As and NR4s.
Subaru vs Mitsubishi in the r4’s might work, only 2 cars but I enjoy both. I think Group A isn’t much of a break over the Group B’s, they’re still quite a handful.
Agreed, the R4s were pretty fun. The Group As felt a little soft and mushy from what I remember, so could be a handful. R4s almost had the sharpness of the 2000ccs and R5s, so quite enjoyable.
I only ever drove one of the R4s (the Subaru), in Argentina. And while I did have some problems with it initially I think I will be able to handle it.
As for the 2000cc class: I think that was the class where I haven’t found a car I rally enjoyed to drive yet, but that makes it interesting, an opportunity to go and find one.
At this point everything that isn’t group B AWD would be welcome for me.
However I do still find that the number of rallies in the championship is probably too high. I’d prefer six over twelve just to keep the spirits up. If you notice that a car/class is not for you or you just cannot drive one or two rallies of the series, then you don’t have to wait that long.
Ha, that’s very generous, but think we have to put this down as a racing incident. I will run it as an event and post the time to see what would’ve happened, but think we’ve said before it’s part and parcel of online racing.
Same here. I’ve not enjoyed online racing as much for years. The setup Mudcat has done and everyone being able to join and race each other, regardless of timezone, is really fantastic.
I’m happy to drive anything anywhere which is never the answer someone wants to read when asking for opinions.
All I ever ask from a Rally is just to finish every stage in one piece so I can send the crew scattering in all directions as I spin madly out of control as I cross the line.
For some reason I seem to have most of my "incidents " either in or within sight of the end. For example on one stage in Poland I ended of up on my roof about 100m short of the line but skidded along upside down and somehow flipped back upright as I finished. I looked over at my co-driver and said “Ha, didn’t have that manoeuvre in your pace notes did you bighead?”
I hear ya, ideally I would have known how to count a bit better so I could have spaced things out properly, but part of the logic behind the 3 Legs/Stages of 4 races each was to try and bridge difference between those who wanted shorter championships and those who wanted the longer, technically it’s both in one.
I could open up the alt. rally again. Ideally though I could do it to add a different car class, so we could do a class and overall leader. That is a bit tricky too though as what do I add as a car class or two that’s close on times, the closest to Group B 4WD is um Group B RWD, not sure that’s a better alternative. I guess being close doesn’t really matter. Let me look and see what alternatives I can come up with.
*fun fact, last place in our group B 4WD Baumholder race would have been 3rd time wise vs what we ran in the Rally GT cars.
I am not sure I want to go back to driving two championships in different cars at the same time again.
It did cost me a lot of time.
But yeah the idea isn’t bad at all.
I am torn myself. Probably not the best person to get input from.
Well, I mean, I could set it up for the same courses, same settings and all that just with a different car. You can pick one or the other (not both) and I can just add the time into the others. It’s more work for me to pull it all together but it’s not a huge time sink. It’s just mostly a question of what car, like I said Group B RWD competed with the 4WD cars… but I’m not sure if that would be a better alternative for anyone not into the Group B 4WD cars.
Ok, I set up the alt rally club (DiRT Rally 2.0) to Group B RWD to add some more driving options. Everything is set exactly the same, stages, conditions, degradation level, etc. The only difference is I forgot to change the start time, so it starts and ends an hour earlier than the normal rally, (I wasn’t about to redo it all over again for an hour).
It’s there if anyone wants to use it instead of the 4WD cars, it’s just an option. If it does get use I’ll integrate the times. Just want to stress PICK ONE OR THE OTHER, NOT BOTH
I’ll continue to mirror the league there just in case, even if no one drives in it. It’s just an option, nothing more, nothing less.
