DLSS4 for MSFS

I am no tech geek but anything that can improve my VR experience is definitely on my radar.

As was the recent release of DLSS4 tech by nvidia.

Without going into details (which I do not get anyway :grinning:), I understand this is technology to improve visuals and performance both in 2D as well as VR.

There is a loooong discussions in multiple threads on the official MSFS forum (and avsim as well which I am not following) where people are trying to get the DLSS4 work with MSFS 2020 and 2024… with varying success. Although the release (with new 572.16 drivers) was supposed to be a smooth one, it seems that without some serious frankensteining with drivers, unofficial dll files, dlss swapper, 3rd party nvidia inspector and new nvidia app it actually does not work.

I took the risk and gave it a shot to report to interested fellow Mudspikers what to expect once the tech is deployed in a seamless way.

I did not expect much as I always preferred TAA (100% render scale, so no upscaling) to DLSS (render at lower resolution and then upscale) but got really surprised - in the same scenario the performance increased from some 30+ frames to 40+ (both sims). This is welcome especially for MSFS 2024 where the VR performance is worse when compared to MSFS 2020 with the same settings. As for clarity - and I have no idea how that is possible (magic?) - DLSS quality as well as balanced presets give me better visuals than TAA @ 100% render scale.

Really cool. Looks like we are one more step closer to a VR Nirvana  I hope this tech will get integrated into MSFS soon without the need to fiddle with the files manually.

My specs: Ryzen 7800x3D, nvidia 4090, Varjo Aero

Thanks for the info!

I don’t suppose you could write up a walkthrough of the process, or link to one that you followed…?

The thread on the MSFS forum is a bit confusing but there is a good guide here on reddit:

Globally force DLSS4 Preset K, using only official Driver and NPI, without copying any DLL files and without using the Nvidia App to override on a game by game basis. : r/nvidia

I went a different route replacing the relevant dll files with the help of JSGME (but could be done manually) and using the new nvidia app to apply them. I may be missing forcing the preset K because I do not have the nvidia inspector. It may cause bit more blurring but with steam gauges it is not so bad.
