@boomerang10 put me on that Col 285 system last year, i made the majority of my money out there before carriers existed. I have an exploration ship on the carrier already, how about we jump out far away and find our own honey hole? These listed triple and double hotspots will probably make it impossible to park the carrier close. I don’t really mind going wherever though.
Obsidian Ant seems to think the NERF hammer has been brought down on LTD mining - I guess time will tell:
I spent about 30 min in a void opal hotspot and found three crackable asteroids… and ended up with 18t alexandrite, 13t void opals and 14t LTD …havent looked into the selling price of these… still have about 300 limpets to get through first
Yamiks was (angrily, as usual) saying the same thing.
Just had a look through the FCOC and IMU discord histories and it seems like nobody can find any asteroids at all with LTDs for laser mining anywhere. I think though that the core deposits are not affected (or maybe it’s just the probability for which material that has changed)? It’s all speculation at the moment but there are predictions of an emergency patch in the next few days
What ever you decide I’m good with. I transferred my whole fleet to the carrier so I’m prepped for anything.
Have players been doing the old laser mining for LTD? When I rode along on your last trip in my Corvette, I just did surface, subsurface, and core mining. Recovered about 160t of LTD, IIRC. I didn’t realize laser mining was even still “in”… my Corvette didn’t even have any lasers fitted!
Ugh, how the heck am I supposed to make money?? I missed the gold rush of mining because of DW2.
Don’t worry, this is just a temporary blip. Core mining seems to be unaffected and other materials like Painite seem to still be very profitable. It’ll just take a week or two for everyone to figure out the new meta for quickest profit.
EDIT: Here’s another take on the current situation:
not sure if core mining is effected, now i have just spent about an hour in the same void opal hotspot, so far I have found more crackable asteroids, but they are more varied cores, so far i have found grandiderite, Bromelite, Alexandrite, LTD and void opals and so far in the hold I have 40t of alexandrite,
28t of LTD and 34t of void oapls. so they may have increased the chance of crackables but they have also lowered the chance of the hotspot type … well thats what it looks like to me
not really been looking for them, did notce loads of tritium around though… every asteroid that I thought might have a core, but didnt, the majority had tritium.
Interesting. This must’ve come down right around the same time Yamiks posted his most recent video talking about the newest mining nerf:
I sure could use some cash. I’ve been playing it on/off since 2017 and never really got too far. Great looking game though.
So I’ve been a bit busy for the last couple of weeks and haven’t had any time to spend on ED, but that should be about to change. When I invested in the fleet carrier my plan was to take her out into the black and use her as a mobile exploration base. To that end, I think it’s time for a shakedown trip to see how well suited she is to exploration. We’ll start with this:
Route:
- Across the Formidyne Rift and back
- Round trip of 25 - 30 KLYs
Timescale:
- 6 - 8 weeks
- Departing Monday 3rd Aug
Format:
- Weekly relocations covering approx 3 - 5 KLYs per week
- All carrier jumps to be made between 22:00 UTC on Sundays and 22:00 UTC on Mondays. 24 hours notice will be given beforehand
- After arrival at each waypoint, exploration of nearby systems looking for points of interest and mining opportunities, followed potentially by some mining (principally for tritium, and maybe some core minerals or painite) and sightseeing
POIs:
POIs To be reported on FEI PAWs FCOC Discord channel (saves clogging up this thread) and to include:
- High value exploration bodies (Earth like worlds, ammonia worlds and water worlds, and neutron stars)
- Landable planets with unusual views, geography, or surface sites
- Tritium hotspots, double overlap painite hotspots, triple overlap LTD hotspots (assuming mining gets fixed while we’re out there)
- Unusual star systems / stellar phenomena (e.g. multiple neutron star systems, or Lagrange clouds etc, or in fact anything unusual or interesting)
- Human activity, including beacons, surface sites, megaships etc (Dynasty project stuff)
I’ve no idea how much we’ll find but I’ve been meaning to head out to the Rift for a little while and this seems like a good excuse. The Discord channel can be found here: Discord
Just look for the channel called #203-fei-paw_havlokuk
Anyone who wants to come along is welcome, however once we leave there’s no turning back. I recommend bringing at least one ship with jump range >30 LYs as we’re likely to spend at least one week within the rift where the star density is very low.
Awesome I’m loaded and ready.
So…what your saying is I should stop getting side tracked while on my side tracks, finish the engineering that I had originally set out to do, get myself back on the carrier lol.
You have a week and a half’s notice so no need to rush.
Hmmm… I’m two ranks away from Cutter status, then would need to run around and get one fitted up, and I just came back from the black. BUT, my Phantom is still outfitted for long-range exploration, and I’ve wanted to go to the Formidine Rift for quite some time. Let me see what I can do this weekend to finish the ranks, and go pick up a new toy. Might see about bringing both Kraits, my 'Conda, and if I can get a Cutter halfway built, that as well.
