Thanks! So are they listed on maps somewhere as to their locations or is it just one of those “luck of the draw” type things? I’d love to jump in and get a sense of the scale of them in VR.
there are shed loads of them in certain systems, if you look for low temp diamond hotspots you will find loads parked in orbit… as miners use them as bases
Yes you will find them on the system map. You can always try to go to any system with an engineer. Usually many fleet carriers are around these systems. You also see MP chat now in solo, which was mildly confusing.
As for the “what to do” issue I agree with you. I think Elite is best played by setting your own goals. Engineering can help to get some purpose. It still feels grindy…
If you are anywhere near Lave then the FEI PAW will be in orbit around the planet there until Thursday evening. Feel free to drop in.
I docked at the Fei Paw last night. Donated 19 tons of Tritium.
Ice mining isn’t something I’ve done much of, so I may ride out and try some LTD mining. Will I be able to sell the LTD I recover at the Fei Paw? Or just mine until my hold are filled?
Thanks.
Arrrrgh, I need to hurry up and get back. I feel like I’m way behind in the potential earnings since I’ve been out in the black for the last two years.
Either. You can sell at the FEI PAW for about 2/3 max market value or hold on to them to sell yourself once we jump back. When we jump back it will be into a system with high selling price. I should point out that there are a bunch of gankers, not to mention the Code, who have figured out that’s what a lot of miners with fleet carriers are doing and have been blockading the systems with the highest prices. I have had some trouble selling over the last couple of weeks.
Where abouts are you?
Between the Festival Grounds and the Scutum-Sagitarii Conflux, about 17k from the bubble, 6k from Colonia. 64 LY jump range, so I’ve got that going for me.
I remember on my way back from the far side of the galaxy, I wanted to get back home so badly. When I got down to 10k LY from home… on a Saturday I just pushed all of those 10k LY in one day, with my Asp Explorer having only a 35LY range (this was pre-engineers). Oh man, so tired after jumping for like 8 or 9 hours. But I was HOME!
I can sympathise. I very nearly didn’t make it to Beagle Point during DW2, and the slog back to Sag A* was gruelling. I actually contemplated self destructing, but I didn’t want to lose all my exploration data. In the end I stopped off in Colonia for a few months for the change of pace and started to enjoy playing again.
Oh, check out the Fleet Carrier Owners Club Discord (link below) - there is a Sag A to Bubble FC hitchhiker channel where you may be able to hitch a ride back. FEI PAW also has a channel there (#203).
Ooooooh, thanks! I was looking to see if there were any support ships out my way yet for the deep space network. I’ll have to take a look at seeing if I can hitch a ride back. Unfortunately, I left my refinery and mining laser at Sag A*, so I don’t know if I’d be able to say thanks in the form of Tritium.
Not sure how you out of the bubble explorers do it. The monotony of all those jumps and fuel scooping would be mind numbing.
I’m sure they would accept an IOU. Well, mostly sure. Quietly confident? Ok, but it’s worth a try
The secret? Podcasts. Lots and lots of them.
Netflix on a secondary monitor also works.
Not in VR it doesn’t
I picked up a mining missle launcher, and returned to the hangar bay. The python is a pretty nice setup for mining. 2 mining lasers, a subsurface launcher, seismic charge launcher, abrasion blaster, and two limpet controllers. It’s also got a decent jump range and surprisingly nimble in the ring. Only downside is it only has room for about 125 tons.
That’s only 15 mining runs to fill up the FEI PAW then
To be honest that’s a very similar build to my core mining Krait, except she only has 64 tons cargo space. I think she needs a refit too
Oh yes, it does
