Ahhh … ‘space legs’ and atmospheric landings. If you could squash ED and this together it would be awesome!

Thanx - good advice - based on that I going with my X-52 that I use for the DCS Mi-8 and Viggen - the one big throttle for most stuff and a thumb knob for the low speed back and forth stuff - the thumb wheel has a nice center indent. It looks like ED had the X-52 in mind since all the buttons and axis show up as icons in the controls menu.

I realized that I am still pretty far behind you all but today I made enough to purchase a Viper MkIII and boost its performance a bit…and still keep my Sidewinder in storage.

Also, not a bad idea to consider using the thumb wheels on the throttle for lateral thrusters, especially for combat and landing on high g worlds.

Hmmmmm…definitely have a point there. It defaulted to the throttle 4-way switch for your index finger so up-down-left-right…but you have to keep it pressed…so landing on a high G world…an axis would be better…it’s a thinker

At least I am currently too busy trying to get from Pakistan to Australia in a Piper Arrow to leave the atmosphere…so you’ll probably have a bigger ship than me by the time I arrive to Melbourne

Nice choice on the viper. Fun little ship.

Picked that up in Distant Worlds 2. One of the early base camps was on a planet with IIRC around 6G’s. My Phantom is very light with engineered drives so I was ok, but when some of the folks in Anacondas or Cutters with downgraded engines made their approaches… Hilarity ensued.

So is it wrong to join a power just because Arissa Lavigny-Duval is hot? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Well, the Imperial Hammer is a popular weapon for PvP, provided you’re not terrible with fixed weapons.

I’m kinda surprised you didn’t say anything about Princess Anime.

Aisling Duval? Or is there someone else?

I suck with fixed weapons. Need at least gimbal weps to get any hits. Need to take my new Viper over to a low intensity conflict zone for some practice. Still in the Pilot’s Federation Safe Zone.

I saw on a video that Li Yong-Rui systems has ships for about 20% off…and you don’t have to be a member to get the discount…like COSTCO without the card! :slightly_smiling_face:

Seems as good a reason as any to me . Yes, li Yong Rui systems give you a discount on ships and modules, and the best part is that the discount is reflected in your rebuy cost. This becomes quite considerable for the larger ships.

I use fixed for my pulse lasers and gimballed for my multi cannon.

Fix isn’t to hard to use. Keep your throttle in the blue and remember to use yaw.

On my python I rock two turreted burst lasers, two gimballed autocannon and one mighty fixed beam.

I guess it’s more having the two - gimbal and fixed - at the same time… more than that, using lasers and cannon in the same group. Obviously a laser fires at the speed of light soleading the target is unnecessary…if both are fixed, it becomes a constant decision loop of which point to aim at, the leading circle or center dot.

Then, even close in during a tail chase, the center dot moves on and off a target rather quickly so lots of misses if you don’t have a gimbal system. OK for a fixed cannon in these set ups since you are always looking at the lead circle, and know that, unless it is a big deflection shot, the gimbal lasers will hit too.

That’s what I’m going with…soon…need some CR for cannons.

I like to use gimbals on projectile weapons, pulse lasers on fixed, and assign different triggers to them. Basically I keep the gimbal stuff held down constantly and then just take shots with the fixed when I’m lined up. The damage penalty for gimballed versus fixed isn’t really that much, especially considering the weapon damage is zero if the shot misses.

When I first started playing, I just went gimbaled all the way.

I use my lasers as group one and multi as group 2.

I get shields down with the laser and then pound them with my multi. During reload I’ll fire the laser.

Before I left the bubble, I’d started playing with railguns, plasma accelerators, and other unusual weapons, out of curiosity as to what they could do. Still learning a lot about what’s best for what situation and how different things are effective for different ships.

Mostly because I want to take my Clipper pirating when I get back.

railguns are fun. I flew a 4-rail FdL for a bit. It went fzzzzzzrrrtBlyat! much like a MiG-15 in DCS
