Elite: Dangerous - updates!

From my understanding, that’s supposed to be part of Odyssey as well, and what I’m more looking forward to. But I believe that will be a later alpha test, from what I’ve read so far.

Nonsense- I think the ability to discuss differences in opinion is a good thing more often than not, especially when it comes to our hobby.

I’m still trying to get into that one, but I know it’s completely night and day different from how it was at release.

Like @Navynuke99 said you never have to worry to express an opinion that’s borne out of observation.

I admit I sort of dropped the ball here and stopped posting updates in the pure sense of the words- I don’t have a lot of time now, maybe later tonight but the essence is that the fighting is only a part of the Odyssey experience.

Of course a good way to test the robustness of the code (that’s pretty complicated at this point) is to have a lot of things happening together so the emphasis of phase two is combat- but as I said it’s not where the game dies.

More later, I hope.

I haven’t tried Odyssey yet, but I did revisit NMS last year and had a pretty good time with it.

Often the planets could look a bit samey, although I don’t think that would be unrealistic.

But then you’d land on a planet with purple skies and craggy mountains with occasional whipping storms and for just a second you felt like a space explorer.

I know it’s unlikely, but I’d love to see some rudimentary base building. It gave you something to do and was a fun exercise in engineering.

Nice to see that there’s a bit more to Odyssey than just the pew-pew:

I was going to jump on the Odyssey train - what’s the best guess on when the Alpha being over, so the norms  can use it?

This looks a lot more interesting to me. I guess I like the possibility of exploration more than the act of it

You have to admit Frontier know what they’re doing when it comes to rendering engines:

Here’s a really nice demonstration of ship scale:

Bought the alpha and I am downloading it while I’m at work. Quick question. Does the alpha make you start from scratch or is it a continuation of my normal game?

So far the Alpha is a clear commander. You start with a Cobra Mk.III and a small bunch of credits.

Next phase, or the next-next one- will import your commander.

Awesome. So I can poke around in odyssey without “ruining” my normal game.

Im.assuming once we import it will wipe all odyssey progress away?

Yes, Frontier always kept Game and Beta/Alphas on separated servers.

So literally anything done in Beta/Alpha was ‘a dream’ or a parallel universe, if you prefer.

Smart decision.

That’s pretty cool. Really makes it so you have nothing holding you back. Also if I read the road map correct the exo biology is phase 3 then?

“It was all a dream…”

I’ve been living and breathing work for the last 10 days, so I’ve not had much time for anything fun, but I’m hoping I can get back into the alpha, especially for the exploration phase (and especially when I can take my own ship out, and use my own Spacebucks).

Yup, look at the post above yours, there a 60 sec video about Xenobiology in phase 3 and above again a short list of features.

OA seems underwhelmed by the exploration features in Odyssey:

Been messing around with the alpha for a few days now. I love it! However I use HCS voice packs and they aren’t active for flying in the alpha so I had to relearn all my controls lol!

I ended up setting up my xbox controller for the first person stuff and it works great. DId some accidental combat. Was told to stop for a scan but I was on the other side of a wall. I knew it would take the AI forever to get around so I thought I would move towards him. Turns out that isnt good. Got a nice fine and shot. LOL.

Over all I’m impressed and can’t wait to get it into the actual game. I will say this, I have yet to run into a happy human on a planet.
