Hehe it’s ok.
Right, so there I was docked aboard FEI PAW with a whole morning ahead of me. There would be some work and my children to see to but nothing that should get in the way of a few hours of background fleet carrier navigation.
So, which way to go? I consulted the Wheel of Decision (I was so excited I just had to dance: https://images.app.goo.gl/t3bF4pC1xFpve7AZA). The needle landed on ‘head along the spiral arm inwards.’
Ok. I consulted the galactic map and there are a couple of nebulae about 6 KLYs along that will do nicely for the first stop. I call the bridge crew and tell them to get their backsides moving and 15 minutes later we’re off! Onwards to a new adventure! Heading into the unknown! Casting aside fear and risking all for fortunes untold! Boldly going where no-one has split an infinitive before!
And then the phone rang. Emergency cover - have to see the client immediately. I’ve got just enough time to arrange childcare and that’s all. So, expedition postponed. C’est la vie.
Navigation should be resuming around 10pm BST so please ensure you are docked by then.

Ah! Thanks for the heads up!
I was exactly wondering if I had time to sneak a small sortie.
Ok. Moving now. I’ll post when we’re stopping for the night.
Ok, we’ve arrived at last. We’re right next to a rather impressive nebula and there are biological signals on the local planets.
o7 guys
I managed to spend an hour or so exploring the local planets / moons. I found several biological and geological sites and took the opportunity to collect some rarer materials whilst enjoying the view:
I had noticed an interesting looking crater on approach so I headed over to take a look. It’s a pretty large crater with a central mound - the impact that made it would have shaken the whole moon! But in the millenia since the active volcanism in the crust has caused a canyon to open up directly across the crater. Time to explore:
It’s dark down there!
I got a good view of crater and canyon it on the way back up.
Safely back to base.
Our current system has a cool, tiny, potato like moon around one of the planets. Noticeably out of round.
Had some fun around last night- explored some of the planets of the current system!
Do you have a planned date for the jump to the next location?
Not really. I’m quite enjoying the current system and I haven’t explored any of the nearby ones so I’m happy to hang around for a couple of weeks, unless anyone has a pressing desire to move on?
Nono, absolutely!
This system is absolutely fine!
It’s enough if you give me 1 day in advance, if you get the wanderlust but beside that the FEI PAW can rest for a couple weeks no issue.
I actually have a proposition.
Would you want to do a two-ship mining rig?
All you need is either the mining tools or a shipful of Collector limpets.
I shoot the living hell out of the asteroids and you just keep on launching limpets to collect the goods.
Once your full we can check if moving to another spot or keep on mining the current one.
Awesome idea, I’d love to. The problem is I’m on PS4 and Frontier still haven’t sorted out the crossplay. I can only see and play with other PS4 players
DARN! Sorry, I didn’t pick that up during the discussion!
I’d be down, but unfortunately with work and life and trips out of town I didn’t have time to refit/ transfer any mining ships before we left the bubble.
It’s OK, maybe we can come up with a different plan!
What do you have on your ship/ships?
Three explorers in various states of outfit (I think my Phantom has a single mining laser), and my Clipper fitted for mission running. If we hit Colonia I can refit my Asp for mining though.
I’ll angle us over that way in a few weeks or so
Uhm, you sure you can’t fit a Limpet Collector Controller in the FEI PAW?
If you could do that we could about and mine the asteroid rings…
