Elite: Dangerous - updates!

Completely safe. I’ll probably look at moving on next weekend or the following Monday, depending on work.

I know right? I’ve seen pairs of adjacent ones before but never 4 practically within sight of each other.

When I see those screenshots I remember how much fun this minigame in E:D is. Gotta crack some space rocks again…

And it’s so much easier with a dozen Collector limpets!

Some canyon running in my racing Eagle last night:

I would post more but just after that last image I misjudged a tight turn and woke up in the medical bay of the FEI PAW

 :joy:

Happens to the best of us.
Now that I think of it, I too have a few racing ships!
What the top speed of your fastest?

My PVP chieftain does about 570 boost, I think that’s my fastest. I have a cobra which I’ve kept more for sentimental value than for any real use which can top 550, that’s about the same as the Eagle I was using last night. I’m only half way through engineering the Eagles engines though - I’m hoping to get to 600 in it eventually.

Very nice! Dirty Engine Tuning or Clean one?

Dirty for better performance. I use dirty for all my ships (except the exploration ones to keep the heat down). I did try enhanced thrusters on the Eagle at one point but they only added a handful of m/s straight line speed and made the slide in the turns much worse, so I switched back again. It’s still a work in progress

The enhanced thrusters only work if the Ship’s total mass is under a certain (pretty low) threshold.
On a Sidewinder they do miracles.
I had one that pushed to (IIRC) 800 m/s boosting.

It was literally a shrapnel.

EDIT: Yep, it was that - Engineered Performance thrusters, Dirty Tuning with Drag Drive modification.

 Hmm … I’ll have to try that when we get back.

I like the Imperial Eagle for canyon running because of the handling as well as the speed. It’s super responsive and shows very little tendency to slide in tight turns. I initially fitted it out for exploring too when I got the fleet carrier thinking I could use it for short range reconnisance and mapping, but the fuel tank is so pitiful that I spent the whole time worrying about running out of fuel and getting stranded instead of exploring. I could burn through the whole tank just running around in system if I wanted to.

Drive Distributors is more effective than Drag Drive experimental on light ships.
Play around with it on this ultralight ultra-fast Imperial Eagle build

EDIT: Drive distributors are still better, even on this heavier, more reasonable build

Even with performance thrusters?

Yes, both have enhanced performance thrusters. The heavier build has a top boost speed of 645 m/s with Drag Drives, and 674 m/s with Drive Distributors.

The ultralight combat build tops out at 841 m/s with Drag Drives and 889 with Drive Distributors.

These are both highly engineered builds with maxed out G5 Dirty Drives 3A Enhanced Performance Thrusters

Cool!
Eh, this shows I can still learn something new! Thanks!

Wow, I’m gonna have to revisit those enhanced performance engines for my Eagle - its about half way between the two builds you linked at the moment. When I tried them out before the ship was considerably heavier which I guess minimised the difference. I’m putting it on the list of things to do when we get back to civilisation.

EDIT: Coriolis suggests I can get an extra 200 m/s with my current build just by switching to enhanced performance engines! :exploding_head:

Aha! When I looked at my inventory I found I still had those enhanced engines - a quick swap and G3 engineering upgrade and this is the result:

Nice!

OK guys. I’ve enjoyed this little bit of the Galaxy but I think it’s time to move on. FEI PAW will be departing for the next leg at some point on monday, depending on work. I’ve got another nebula in mind but it’s on a completely different scale to this one.

:mega:So this is a 48 hour warning. FEI PAW will be leaving in about 48 hours. Please ensure you are docked by Monday morning so as to not get left behind.

Congrats!
I just finished this barebones, no shields, no hardpoints, pure racing build.
I think I will die a lot, but boy is this fun!

I managed to go beyond 850 m/s with this! And it still has 20+ ly jump range

Yeah, I’ve got a 1C bi-weave on my Eagle but at 750 m/s it might as well not be there - I think I will remove it for a bit more speed.

Awesome! Living on the (Gutamayan) edge.

Don’t forget to downsize your powerplant as well when you remove the shield
