OK, so ops normal as far as weapon effects. That helps a lot.
So scout hunting for the cause!

For anyone who needs a forward operating base, I’ve stationed FEI PAW in the Kwin system, which is about 30 LYs from Thargoid territory. We haven’t got any AX gear to sell but we do have a redemption office to collect your bounties from and full repair, refuel, shipyard and outfitting facilities.
Awesome! I need to put some miles on my MSFS Christmas flight.
But after that, I’m gonna give some Thargoids a knuckle sammich!
If humanity still survives, naturally.
Looks like this CG is going to end pretty quickly:
Glad to see some action. Eight weeks… And apparently a couple of engineers pushing this initiative.
And so far not a single mention of any action from a superpower? (maybe I missed something?) I saw an Empire Capital ship on my last play, but it was out in a system with a Rescue Ship. I suppose since the Thargoids seem to wipe out even a capital ship like nothing, it doesn’t make much sense to move them into the flames. But still…
The CG is already 20% cpmplete and it only started today! At this rate it will be finished before the weekend!
I’ve been trying to hold off the Thargoids from overrunning Ampere Dock in Imeut over the last couple of days. Here’s a few screenshots of the action:
Notice my hull condition in that last shot. The decontamination limpet worked just in time. I was half expecting to catch a stray missile or something and burn up right there on the landing pad. It worked out well in the end, though. And not a bad payday either for an hour or two’s work:
Very nice. I’m running a few passenger and escape pod evacuation missions out of some of the burning outposts. So far, speed saves the day when bad things are about to happen.
I’ve got my cold-orbit meta build AX Chieftan that I might bring in (it’s out in the Coal Sack nebula). I’ve faced a few Cyclops in it, a good time ago. I could take out a single Cyclops heart, maybe two, before I had to jump out of the fight. That was solo fights, in a multiplayer AXCZ… maybe I could contribute a bit more meaningfully.
Happily never lost the ship in combat. But I do need to work up the skills, though. Aiming the fixed Guardian Gauss Canons in Reverski and/or FA off takes some practice.
I got my first semi-solo Cyclops kill last night:
It started out a solo attempt but some NPC defence force ships turned up to help out. They were actually very helpful in distracting the Thargoid interceptor long enough for me to get a scan so I could target the hearts.
o7 Guys
Nice job!
You running Gauss or some new fangled AX weapons.
I’m going to be heading out there, but I’m still not sure I want to regrind to dump my AX Multis and get set up for Interceptor hunting.
I swapped to the new enhanced AX multicannons - they are a small step up but are definitely capable of taking down a Cyclops. The tricky part is getting the xeno scan required to target the hearts. You have to stay within 500m for about 10 seconds and that’s tricky!
I’m actually a bit stuck at the moment. I settled down at an abandoned outpost for a look around - it was very atmospheric with a Thargoid interceptor patrolling overhead. Unfortunately I neglected to dismiss my ship quickly enough and it was destroyed. I’ve tried to charter an Apex shuttle but all systems in the bubble appear to have no drop off points (I think this is likely a bug). So I don’t really know what to do? I guess I’ll sort something out later when I have some time.
Congratulations on the Cyclops kill! Even with help, that takes some doing.
I had my Chieftan out killing Thargoid Scouts, as a practice session ahead of attempting a Cyclops again, after a year or more. The new Enhanced Multi-canons are really nice. Just two Large size mounts were ripping through the Scouts, I had nearly a million in bonds in just a couple of minutes.
Not sure whether I’ll make my Cyclops try with MCs or Guardian Gauss. Nice to known I’ve got a choice other than the fixed mount Gauss.
Good luck! If you use turret MC’s remember to pack a xeno scanner and get a scan at the start, otherwise there is no way to target the hearts. I think the gauss cannons would be required for tougher interceptors, definitely medusa and hydra, but then you have to balance the heat generation. I found that a single size 2 beam laser with thermal vent effect is enough to control the heat from 3 size 3 turret MC’s (I ended up using just 2 though) but I doubt it would be enough for gauss cannons. I think?
The Thargoid Scanner… Oh those 10 seconds of horror!
For my Chieftan I fitted a Class 1 Beam (G3 Efficient Weapon with Thermal Vent). It’s been months, but I don’t recall heat being a big problem when firing 2x Small and 2x Medium Gauss?
My ship was designed around cold-orbit and, aside from my piloting fails, seemed to do OK.
So a Class 1 might be OK? For the Chieftan, it’s my only choice, since Class 1 was the only hardpoint remaining, after the Gauss and Remote Flak are fitted.
Awesome. I thought heat would be nore of an issue but maybe not?
