Elite: Dangerous - updates!

Mission accomplished

Actually, I can see where you are coming from. I didn’t feel that AX combat was particularly appealing until recently. I do wish that more had been made of the pro-xeno side of things and would probably have contributed to efforts to communicate etc.

However, once they invaded human systems I figured they had relinquished the moral high ground and it was time I joined the AX efforts. I must admit it has been challenging and fun enough for it to stop me from getting back out into the black over the last couple of months.

I am currently organising a run to Rackham’s Peak and will then head away from the bubble for a bit. Let me know if you would like to come along?

I wish if I could. I have little time (or will) to play.
It’s complicated.

Thanks for those replies!

I still have my old AX MC Krait sitting out in the old hunting grounds.

I’d probably be more enthusiastic about jumping back in if I didn’t need to grind to refit with new AX tech.

I was thinking… and yea it’s a long shot but… some ships support multicrew and…
Well… you know.
It’d be cool to be a crew of three or something… on a carrier. We all have one or two ships… doing random tomfoolery…

I think I feel EXACTLY the same way about ED.

Can’t remember when I last had a go - but I still keep it installed and every now and then I update it.

I restarted a couple of times - but it’s so easy to get Elite status now compared to how it was in the glorious days of yore, I lose interest after a couple of weeks. Each time I go back it seems like something I should be doing, but it doesn’t last cos at the end it’s still the same.
Was really disappointed to see how badly they nerfed the Ram Tah missions. It’s a real cinch now and no challenge at all. All that they left are the obelisk groups that you need - all the dud ones are gone, so it’s easy to find the right ones.
As for the Barnacles, I just gave up on that, even with the info available on the net, the chances of finding active ones is low.

Such a shame, but I definitely had my money’s worth, no denying that.

I love Elite. But the thargoid invasion stuff is what is currently keeping me away.

That saves me time having to type the exact same.

According to Steam I have over 1.1K hours invested and I really should get back into ED… It is glorious in 3D/VR.

Elite was created with VR in mind and it shows.

Just restarted NMS. Started on a ice planet. Been a long time since i played. Should be fun though, and its plays well with a controller

NMS has had a few nice updates and is still fun for bounding across weird planets, Star Trek style!

I had quit playing for a long while, after nearly 2000 hours with my CMDR. Then on a whim, I picked up Odyssey on sale. It’s been the most fun I’ve had with Elite.

Exploration was expanded with the surface exobiologicals, and I really think it’s great. Gives new interest to not only ship-based planetary flight, but the SRV too, which I always did enjoy.

My “persona” CMDR was never a combat type. Back in the early Horizons days, when a faction took over my home system, I did fight against them a bit (though fruitlessly). And later after getting pulled out of a hyperspace jump, I did start fighting (or trying, anyway) Thargoids.

But it was light duty. I had only ever suffered a single rebuy in those 2000 hours play.

In Odyssey, though, with the Thargoid invasion knocking right at my door, I went into battle with intention. And Thargoid combat is not only more approachable than ever before, IMO when defending a surface base under attack, it’s more fun than EVER. Fighting along side 8 to 12 other CMDRs, wow. My ship and skills sharpened, and I could meaningfully contribute to winning the Thargoid Conflict Zone.

And my pocketbook was lined with cash from the fighting. Earned between $100 and $300 million per combat zone. About $1.3 billion, in total.

Paid for a new $800 million Cutter.

So yea, plenty to enjoy with what Odyssey is doing as of the past year or so, IMO.

W00t? Elite? Was VR since day 0

Literally developed from the ground up top be enjoyed in VR.
Ships, Ground vehicle, and external camera.
Only the foot part is flattened in the VR rendering for a variety of reasons.

I was talking of Odyssey

Yeah, I still don’t understand why Odyssey isn’t in VR. I understand that there were performance issues but it seems to be fine in the ships / SRVs so I can’t see why on foot would be so much more demanding? If you can drive through the settlements OK in VR then why not walk/run?

Maybe because ship VR is cockpit VR. Your body is in a position that matches your virtual one. Driving, well it’s a little harder on the old inner ear, as everybody knows what to expect, and sitting still while bopping about in a buggy can already bring the woozies to people. Imagine the pukeville on-foot VR would entice.

I think it’s not a matter of hardware capability. It’s about making it a comfortable experience to most people.

There should be zero performance issues, at least in my imagination. Ha.

But seriously, when I fly my ship into a station in Odyssey, and fly up to the windows of the station concourse… ALL of the interior, other AI figures, and CMDRs on foot are fully rendered. Right down to the dirt in the pot plants.

All that on-foot stuff still being rendered, when I’m inside my ship, flying around. I can see friend CMDRs on foot inside, waving… looking the out the windows at me, inside my ship.
