Warning: Spoilers!
Pics to come later, but I just took the anti-Xeno Chieftain I built back before the fall semester started closer in to Thargoid attacked systems, planning on starting to smash some bugs…
…and got hyperdicted by a Glaive right before my last jump, which promptly knocked out my Guardian gauss cannons and module reinforcement packs.
So, looks like I’ve got some more building to do before I go fight Thargoids. Again. And I’m guessing a Krait’s hard point layout may be more effective these days…?
It’s really a matter of personal preference. I’ve just swapped from my Krait to Chieftain for the maneuverability as having to constantly boost turn was annoying me. I do miss the extra firepower a little though.
EDIT: I haven’t met a Glaive yet though and I suspect the Krait would be a better bet there
My reading indicated that a useful tactic against Glaive hyperdictions is using heatsinks. As you are going to make a jump where a hyperdiction is possible, fire a heatsink just before the FSD countdown completes and you jump. Supposedly, this will make the ship be at 0% thermal during the jump.
In this situation, if a hyperdiction occurs you will drop already frozen, and the Glaive will not see your ship immediately. Then, just stay cool (maybe more heatsinks, maybe don’t boost, even) and fly away from the Glaive until you can jump out.
Be warned: I have not tried this myself.
In fact I’ve not even been out to Thargoid country since the Glaive appeared on the battlefield. My Chieftain is heavily stocked with Guardian modules, so this tactic (or something like it) is going to be required to save me a re-build.
I keep meaning to respec my Krait for new AX combat. I just keep putting it off because I’m dreading the grind.
I think Elite: Dangerous is a really awesome experience in VR. I don’t like some of the changes they made to make it easier for new players, but nevertheless it remains a real spectacle and something not to miss as a VR player.
I suffered from burnout, though, after playing every day from original beta up to shortly before Odyssey for several hours a day. Getting Elite status has become pretty much a formality imho, though it can be a bit of a same-old grind (unless something changed since). I forgot how many times I reset my profile and started from scratch, but I do often wish I hadn’t done so much of it. Each time I have another go these days it only lasts a month or so before I get bored again.
I never got into the Tharg thing much, it was too random. Every time I tried to destroy one - or sometimes even just get the tech/samples the damn thing would just disappear. Probably a knack to it but after many tries I just got frustrated.
I’ll probably have another go at some stage, but how long it will last is another matter. I still have one advanced profile with a hangar full of ships and Elite status etc, and one that I used for resetting and starting again and generally trying stuff out. No Man’s Sky, though similarly samey after a while, is far too relaxing for me - I restart that regularly too, after about 150-170 hours play time - and start over. But that’s currently my go-to space game.
Maybe I should switch and see how I get on.
I was nearby to Gali so going to wait on a carrier and do the annual Booze Cruise. I don’t really need the money, but I’ve not done one before so let’s see if it works out ok. I have Baldur’s Gate 3, Armored Core, Starfield etc all to play more, but it’s been a while since I sat in an unshielded python.
Details here (plus you’ll need to join another discord probably):
Tempting. From memory I still have a bit over 500mill in the bank… But I also have BG3, Starfield and the Mudspike Christmas flight
Has there been a suggestion that a public holiday is imminent at Rackhams Peak?
Yes, it’s started.
Ah rats! I’m out in the black with my carrier at the mo. I don’t think I’m going to have time to participate.
I’m sat here just watching, it’s a few jumps in the carrier so won’t be there until about 5 hours time anyway…

Quite high up above the bubble. Lots of people gorging on wine trading, to the extent that we’ve run out of carriers full of the stuff. About 170m every 5 min run so far.
I’ve been meaning to write an AAR but haven’t gotten around to it so instead I thought I’d share some nice screenshots. I have been quite enjoying doing a little light exploration / genetic sampling in the North American Nebulae - a pair of nebulae about 2000 LY’s from the bubble. I’ve hidden the screenshots because there’s a lot of pics (fair warning). Enjoy:
Summary
Arriving at the nebulae:
Searching for biological signs. I started with this ammonia (I think) atmosphere planet:
Headed up to the polar ice for one of them:
On descent to the next planet:
And the next:
More bacteria:
What a sunset!
I decided to rename this planet Jakku:
The biological models are really detailed:
Please imagine an Ennio Morricone soundtrack whilst viewing these
I know some players have complained that the planets are boring and repetitive but they certainly don’t seem so to me. Each planet and moon I stopped on had a different ambience and complexity.
Searching for Osseous biological samples in the mountains, which presented a real challenge!
There were also … berries?
The end of a productive couple of days:
I’ll post another instalment later, when I get a bit more time.

Another instalment of screenies:
Summary
Out of the mountains and onto the plains searching for some grasses:
Onto an icy moon:
Relocating:
Taking a break from biological sampling to explore this spectacularly huge impact crater:
Mapping the next target:
Payday!
Time for a break before planning the next destination:

OMFG. I absolutely love this…
Yeah the big difference about Elite Dangerous is the big work done on the Star Forge planetary creator system.
While ‘eventually’ you’ll find planets very alike, the game is really impressive from the Generation point of view.
Edit: it’d be so cool to work in tandem, mutli cree a ship for exploration and scientific research!
Feel free to head over to the Fei Paw. She’s currently stationed in … erm … North American Sector IR-W D1-81 … and I’m not planning on moving for a while. There are a number of systems in the region with biological signals. I’ve scanned about 150M credits worth over the last week or so. It’s turned out to be quite profitable
I absolutely wish I could… I have a million and a half things to do sadly… Not last the liberation of Altis…
Edit: secret plans included… I have something that the whole Mudspike community will probably appreciate.
The Typhoon is about to be released!!! Kome just confirmed
… well, I can wish …
