F86F Skins in DCS 2.x

Along with the Normandy 1944 Early Access, Fridge and I got a dump of work-in-progress F-86F skins that are designed to take advantage of the new lighting effects in the updated engine.

There were quite a few new skins, and pics don’t really do them justice, but here’s a handful of pics:

They were (are) beautiful to behold!

I am not sure if the stock skins where updated with the new lighting/rendering capabilities but this Canadian skin really stood out for me:

Looking at it and comparing it to those new skins, it seems apparent that the medal look on the Canadian skin is lacking somewhat, when compared with the shiny goodness in the shots above. Still, it may give a good impression of how the older skins will work with the new engine.

We do, of course, need to see it in a movie…

I love the lines this aircraft has. Really beats all of it’s contemporarys in that regard.

Just…

Wow.

I agree, but considering its conteporaries, that wasn’t hard to accomplish…

Don’t get me wrong!
I love 50-ies jets in general.
But if we’re talking lines, the Sabre has the edge, IMO.

I would absolutely love a J-29 and a Congo scenery!

Gorgeous. Is that Skate’s work?

That looks incredible good.

New hypothesis: The longer a thread exists on Mudspike, the higher the probability of it becoming a “I want AIRCRAFT in DCS” thread is.

Somebody should do a study of this.
There is probably a very high correlation…

Insert Clint Eastwood meme ‘you’re damn right’

and just for completion sake: we talk about jets in the 50’s the same way Hitler did with Goering…

Almost. Godwin’s law states the probability of a comparison to Hitler increases with length of an online discussion, not just the mention of him, but that’s probably me just being a technicality-nazi about it.
