Oh boy I’d love that
A good multiplayer session is impossible to beat. “Good” being the operative word which makes such session sort of serendipitous. The work of Reflected and others to make bespoke experiences that force us to learn the equipment and challenge us to apply that knowledge within stressful, fun scenarios is about as good as it gets. My favorite such campaign is still the “Revenge” campaign for the Hind (sorry but I’ve forgotten the author’s name). They are wildly fun. But to me they are not games in my personal sense of the word. They are crafted experiences with a small band of variability within their structure. The triggering needed for the mission to drive the story forces the player to do certain things at certain times or the story can’t be told. OK well yes this makes them games in the same way that Indiana Jones, Hogwarts and Star Wars Outlaws are games. BMS is more like Command and Conquer. The player can’t predict the outcome. His actions don’t generally trigger major changes to the overall flow of action—unless the player starts playing with the map. And playing with the map is an entirely separate source of joy within the game. The experience is just so multifaceted in BMS. Nothing I can think of can touch it.
BALKANS theater 4.38 Hotfix 1a is released.
- Updated taskforces in campaigns.
– Added B3 flag to taskforce
– Set Dest X and Dest Y coordinates close to the X and Y coordinate…hopefully this will fix ships from going on land - Updated Tornado textures
- Fix PL-15 missile pointer
- Fixed airbase tree and grass models causing aircraft to blow up on landing
- Removed parent 4276…was potentionally causing a CTD when the Su-27 was near because the 3d model was damaged storage tanks
- Removed grass from Ravenna
- Moved windsocks off of Tivat runway
Recently, the Israel Theater v1.08.0 Patch was released.
I know Mudspike isn’t the best place for BMS advice. But questions like the following usually are answered with “RTFM!” by the helpful pros on the official BMS forum. So here’s a stab in the dark:
I’m on my back feet a bit on day three of my campaign. Through a lack of planes and pilots, the only way I can progress is off the carrier. The problem is that I am unable to get any DTC data to load onto a cold and dark F-18. This is especially a problem because without the upload, I get no IFF or Link16 capability. Even if I load them manually without the DTC, they don’t work. Importantly, I can just start from “Taxi” and I enter the pit in a hot jet with all the DTC stuff properly loaded. So I can fly and fight. But I really hate starting from a running jet. “RTFM” responses are fine if you point to the part of the manual that helps me help myself. And thanks!
@smokinhole I just asked by squadron friend who is flying the F-18. His recommendation is
Put to the BMS user.cfg file:
set g_bEnableWIPF18Avionics 0
Did you add the aircraft carrier yourself manually (it’s not easy to set it up properly), or was there one by default? Which theater? Which campaign?
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I’d just changed that to a “1” in hopes to correct the problem. Anyway, 0 or 1, the result is the same. Korea, Iron Tiger? (Spirit?), I forget. The carrier was placed by the campaign logic.
@smokinhole Try this, just asked AI, it might be wrong, but also correct.
Thanks again. I did press those things. I believe the answer is to just not ramp start. Or, wait until resupply and fly a jet that is supported (F-16 or F-15).
Ok, and steps above which AI found doesn’t help? I will ask one our other F-18 pilot who might know.

Thanks! Yeah I think 4.38 may be the issue. I am pretty certain that I am doing it right. I’ll just fast forward the campaign to the next resupply and use the machines that are still supported.
OK so I actually took this onto “their” forum. They were extremely nice and helpful (no “RTFM!”). Their solution was to hit a hidden clickspot on the left DDI…OBS 17 advances MIDS and OBS 16 reverses. For some reason Master Mode must be switched out of and then back to Nav. Unfortunately my BMS is crashing so much that I am unable to test. I suspect this PC is about to fry itself.
@Rapier (Pavel). Just now I reread you AI proposed solution. And actually it mostly matched what I learned last night (other than that the specific input is OBS 17 on the left DDI). I’d say that your solution was probably correct, I was just mis-applying it. Thanks again!
Glad to hear this. Enjoy F-18 in BMS world! ![]()
No it doesn’t work. The point is that your advice was solid.
