Oh boy I’d love that
A good multiplayer session is impossible to beat. “Good” being the operative word which makes such session sort of serendipitous. The work of Reflected and others to make bespoke experiences that force us to learn the equipment and challenge us to apply that knowledge within stressful, fun scenarios is about as good as it gets. My favorite such campaign is still the “Revenge” campaign for the Hind (sorry but I’ve forgotten the author’s name). They are wildly fun. But to me they are not games in my personal sense of the word. They are crafted experiences with a small band of variability within their structure. The triggering needed for the mission to drive the story forces the player to do certain things at certain times or the story can’t be told. OK well yes this makes them games in the same way that Indiana Jones, Hogwarts and Star Wars Outlaws are games. BMS is more like Command and Conquer. The player can’t predict the outcome. His actions don’t generally trigger major changes to the overall flow of action—unless the player starts playing with the map. And playing with the map is an entirely separate source of joy within the game. The experience is just so multifaceted in BMS. Nothing I can think of can touch it.
