Falcon BMS Discussion

Just two more weeks… ®

:joy: I kid, I’m as excited about returning to BMS as could be. VR will probably hurt sales of the DCS F16 significantly.

Ok. Thats very interesting indeed.

Sign me up.

My simpit is useless without VR, so I’ve been waiting for the day.

Last year on our Falcon BMS meeting I played Falcon BMS 4.37 on Oculus Rift S. Not bad bud resolution of this VR kit is not as I would like to see. Then, I used VR kit HP Reverb G1 in DCS Word and it was impressive experience and maybe I’m slowly changing my mind on VR kits.

BTW I saw not only pictures but also flew BMS 4.37 in game engine (1 year back) and in my opinion (I’m sure!) a many DCS World fans will be really surprised what is possible to get from original MicroProse 1998 Falcon 4.0.

give it time, the people will eventually start hating on it, simply because the core code is that old.

The graphics engine on the other hand is pretty new

Last news: VR support should be released in current Falcon BMS 4.36 next patch U4, but you cannot expect the same of detail level like is in DCS or IL-2 Sturmovik. It will be a first version of VR in BMS.

Next week we have a Falcon BMS meeting, so I definitely will try VR and Falcon BMS again.

@Rapier. You may be under some obligation not to disclose information you observe prior to release. And if so, of course you, and we along with you, must respect that. I’d really like to know though if VR can be enabled for the flight portion only. So much of the joy of BMS takes place on the map. I shudder at the thought of trying to mess with any of the 2D stuff in VR.

Thats a very very good question. One that now has me very concerned

as long as it’s 90 FPS it wont matter what it looks like graphically, the engine is old, the assets are old.

Still the best, though! I’ve had some great moments in DCS multiplayer. But no sim has ever managed to check all my boxes in single-player like BMS consistently does nearly every time I play. And some aspects of the general look still compare favorably. There is something to be said for being forced to work within a box that will never get bigger. You must simply perfect every millimeter to make it the best possible allowed by fixed limitations. Keep doing that and the faithful will never let go. DCS will forever be a slideshow because Nvidia and AMD keep improving.

Sounds like a challenge (rhymes with ‘work’) - but that’s exactly what I want - that’s fun to me. Most of the time - but not always…I’m “that guy” that wants the basket physics for example to be harder, more realistic - it’s a a rush to me when I master something (just have to stay ‘current’).

Need variety too.

Us Flight Simmers have it pretty good right now: we can do it all. Just not at very high framerates

I’m such a VR shill however (I can’t give back 1/3 of my dimensions anymore). Graphically BMS is fine. Or it was last time I played it, before I went “VR”. Can’t wait to try it.

I’ve wondered though: I have a feeling, just a feeling, that BMS isn’t going to perform (FPS) much better than DCS in VR. We’ll see.

And…DCS is, due to the scripting engine, potentially more flexible. Problem is you have to do a LOT OF WORK (or someone does) to customize it to your liking; but performance aside, you can arrange your sandbox anyway you like (ignoring the AI warts). Again I’ve not done BMS in several years so maybe it’s more ‘open’ in this regard.

Can’t wait to see what the guys behind the curtain have for us with BMS.

Unlike you. I am not very adventurous with mission creation. But compared to DCS, and especially IL2, BMS is pretty limited as a sandbox engine.

Don’t worry, at least what I seen year ago has been just cockpit in VR. 2D was possible to control as usually. So, I believe that there is no change.

Tomorrow is our Falcon BMS session starting (Friday-Sunday).

I will have a opportunity to try developer version of Falcon BMS with following VR sets: Oculus Rift S and newly much better Meta Quest 2 and compare it with DCS World and IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of …

We have a crammed program on Saturday, almost whole day there are planned 15 min. presentations about all part of Falcon BMS like is: air refueling, BVR Combat, IVC and radio, how to fly in formations, how to use AGM-65 Mavericks, how to use effectively AGM-88 HARM (massive improvement in BMS 4.36), how to create TE missions, buddy lasing, etc.

If somebody is interested to see us we will be here: https://www.restauracenastatku.eu/kontakty
Czech Republic, Náměšť nad Olsavou - where is also Czech Air Force helicopter air base

PS: I also know other news about BMS 4.36 U4 patch but I will tell more after meeting, hopefully.
