I love Spring, the flowers are blooming, the weather is getting warmer, bears are getting fatter… Oh that’s right, the seasons are upside down in Alaska!
Anyhoo, not only because it is about this time of year that the Mudspike Xmas flight kicks off, that makes it about my favouritist time of the year, I am also sure that my spirit animal is a bear - I get fat for winter, I’m hairy and I like beer (see what I did there 
)
May I present:
‘Fat Bear’ - thought this was going to be about all them critters, in these parts, gorging themselves on trash day. 
Useless fact of the day: I visited the front page of that link. Notice most (all?) of those pix were taken from the same spot. Maybe easy for me to notice perhaps cos I spent some time there in 85’ - there’s a large ‘cage’-like structure to contain the people where the photos are taken, esp. this time of year (salmon runs).
You are of course exposed for about a 1/4 mile (forget the exact distance) on a foot trail leading up to the platform however. Got used to them, probably how you get used to cohabitating with salt water crocs?
Had one grab a trout off my line once in a nearby section, charging through the water to grab an easy meal. I didn’t argue with him.
